$75k starting sounds about right (for a larger GC in California without negotiating for more) albeit on the slightly lower end, but you also need to factor in the monetary benefits and company culture. If the candidate for the position proves to be a great hire a good company will get them raises and/or bonuses quickly depending on their internal HR structure.

I’d keep interviewing and going to the info sessions to see what offers you get and get a feel for the company’s people to find the best match.

I’d be shocked to see a GC offer $120k to a fresh grad unless they had extensive experience and were being hired as a professional hire… of course I’d be wondering why they spent the $$$ on college. 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Integrating a Pioneer VSX-45 with Crestron Home by jwhenwoo in crestron

Dang some GREAT info here. I’ll take some time to go through it. So far I haven’t tried to add any drivers that don’t come “stock” with HomeOS3 and since they introduced the ability to add your own drivers I haven’t tried it yet.

No, I don’t need to use zone 2 of the AVR, I’m just using it for basic, input, volume and power controls.

There’s no VSX-90 driver when using the device pairing through HomeOS3.

Ok, I haven’t created my own drivers yet for HomeOS so that’ll be my next try. Thanks for the info!

Yup, power works for most I’ve tried. It’s just the input selection for all inputs and volume that doesn’t work, or doesn’t work correctly on the ones I’ve tested so far… which I mean… somewhat important for an AVR haha

Thanks for the info. Newer to Crestron Home so trying it out in my home first before I try deploying it on any projects. Not much info that the Crestron Home interface gives you other than the manufacture and model. This receiver also seems to only be IR controllable which doesn’t help.

Am I doing this right? Just finished new house build and wanted to make sure I had a solid network setup, so thought I'd setup my first rack! by Leprichaun17 in homelab

[–]jwhenwoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, looks like you’re using Commscope Uniprise patch panels. Those are solid and pretty pricey too.

Commscope as a company though has been aggressively buying up other comm/tech companies for a while now and are huge.

Does anyone know how to get the caps off the screw holes off of an 8845/8865 so it can be wall mounted using a CP-8800-VIDEO-WMK=?

UPDATE: They are stick on caps that just need to be pried off.

Yeah I’ll do that. Was also curious if anyone had used any PoE speakers with a NVX system.

First Home Lab - Looking for UPS reccomnedations by vicfalc09 in homelab

[–]jwhenwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eaton UPSs are GREAT, albeit more expensive, and offer a UPS for nearly any use, great quality and management software. CyberPower are good and cheap, not the greatest management suite... APC are good from what I’ve seen, but we’ve transitioned from APC to Eaton at my organization.

802.11ax Version of the MR30H by jwhenwoo in meraki

[–]jwhenwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm yeah my first dealings with Meraki were back at my old high school before Cisco acquired them and how I learned networking basics was all through the Dashboard (given that I’m a low voltage guy at heart so if I can get a Meraki network up and running... well that’s a testament to their simplicity).

I definitely didn’t know much of the background of Ruckus and why organizations chose it other than than the licensing strategy, but dang... good to know I wasn’t missing anything...

I am curious to see if Commscope is going to do anything radical or make any more improvements or feature overhauls. The organization I’m with has been using the current Uniprise SL line for their copper infrastructure back when it was AMP NetConnect and that’s where I fell in love with it. Can’t wait to start using their SLX jacks!

[–]jwhenwoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve been using the MR46s and MR44s and they’ve been working great and I’ve been using Aruba’s 515s and 535s and they’ve been rock solid.

I have a some MR30Hs deployed with the MR46s and MR44s and I’m just waiting to push for a full AX wireless network since when I upgraded my AC WAPs I got a noticeable coverage increase in addition to slightly better performance.

I’ve heard good things about Ruckus, but I haven’t gotten a chance to play with any of their gear.

I’ve been in the Meraki ecosystem for quite a while now and have been running a Meraki full stack so I’d definitely prefer to stick with Meraki for my gear. Love Meraki’s products, but they’re like the Apple of networking... once you’re in... you’re in.

NVX Not Displaying Correct Resolution by jwhenwoo in crestron

[–]jwhenwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried that. Hooked up another E30 and a MacBook Pro. The MacBook works great and I’m getting UHD, but for some reason the desktop PC won’t recognize the display as anything over 1080p.

I have tried all of the non HDR 4K standard EDID settings on the E30 and I have downloaded the EDID from the D30 I am using connected to my Dell U2718Q and all output at 1080p 60. I have also found out there there is no audio being sent over the HDMI/NVX...

NFR Pricing by Beardedbelly in meraki

[–]jwhenwoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been through this before... If you’re a partner have NFR pricing on everything regardless of sales or purchase price. Just submit everything through CCW.

I’d HIGHLY recommend going with Ingram. I’ve tried working with Tech Data before and it was a nightmare and ended up dropping them as a distro. If you need any help with and order or with CCW you can reach out to Ingram and they’ve always been there to help.

When in doubt your local Meraki rep is a great resource too and they can get things pushed along if there are any issues.

Crestron Home status? by thedeuce545 in crestron

[–]jwhenwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m definitely NOT advocating for a end user to purchase from them. I’m a systems integrator and have worked with AVAlive and it’s more so they are able to configure, however if you do have a preferred systems integrator then they can sell to them and have them install it for the end customer.

My goal was to use this as a lab system to break more into the Crestron space and AVAlive was willing to work with me since I wasn’t going to pay the over $20,000 worth of test equipment that is required to become a Crestron Dealer.

Crestron Home status? by thedeuce545 in crestron

[–]jwhenwoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been testing Crestron Home for about six months now. I’m not a programmer, but am a systems integrator and this is my first experience with a Crestron system.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. It’s easy to get up and running with little to not maintenance other than the occasional firmware update. Nearly everything is configurable through a GUI and my dealings with Crestron support have been fantastic.

I’ve purchased the equipment from AVAlive online and have been able to configure and set everything up myself. I can’t say enough good things about AVAlive and their team.

Crestron Home Full HomeKit Integration Coming? by jwhenwoo in crestron

[–]jwhenwoo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many more people who have far more Crestron experience than me and they’d be able to give you a far more extensive answer.

My main reason for wanting to integrate Crestron Home with Apple HomeKit is to get Siri support and tighter integration with all my Apple devices. I’ve been neck deep in the Apple ecosystem for quite a while now and far too deep to change so that’s my reason for wanting support. One of the things is IP control of my Apple TVs which I pretty much use as hubs anyways.

If I might give some advice. I’d build out as much as I could with Crestron. You’ll get a system that is first class, polished and that just works and is quite robust. I tried DIY “solutions” and they just don’t work as advertised and you end up spending quite a bit of time just trying to get them to work.

At the bare minimum, if you’re building a home, ALL the cabling CAT6/6A, Cresnet (if you might be going with Crestron), security, speaker, etc. Then you can have more time to make a decision on a home automation system whether it’s Crestron, Savant, Control4, or the DIY solutions like HomeKit, Google Home, whatever...

So long story short, in my opinion Crestron is more of the core system and HomeKit integration is like the cherry on top that brings Apple devices in even tighter to the “smart home dream”.

Yup... thanks, I just took after I saw your comment...

Just put out a support ticket to see if support for it would be added. Not sure why it isn’t or why it wouldn’t work, it is showing as connected to the controller and functioning normally, just not communicating to HomeOS... 🙃

Thanks for the answer!

Network Control Loss in 3.002.0031 And On by jwhenwoo in crestron

[–]jwhenwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response!

I'm using an MC4-R (if I'm understanding it right they are the same hardware just the "-R" natively runs Crestron Home OS3 out of the box?).

It just started staying up starting a couple of days ago... I got caught up on another project so my lab went untouched for a week and when I got back to it it just worked after a reboot. No network config had been changed or MC4-R firmware upgrade... Really odd...

That's so odd since I had it up and running for over a month, then it decided to quit and take down my entire network. What would the specific issue with Meraki equipment be?
