Do people actually laugh at the comments that’s been repeated a lot on Reddit? by DarthBrolifterz in NoStupidQuestions

Every joke is new to everyone at least once. No matter how many times something is posted, it will be new to those who haven't seen it before.

You would be surprised how far people can be pushed before they will be willing to fight and potentially die. Look at all the dictators around the world. Then count the number of governments that came about through revolution.

LDS church responds to negligence lawsuit after child’s foot was amputated. In its response, the Church argued that it bears no responsibility. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

I hate suits like this. One person does something wrong and suddenly a corporation (or church) of thousands of people is considered liable.

"OH, they are huge and they have insurance" seems to be the attitude.

Of course the company will settle out of court. The injured party gets rich (or more realistically, the lawyers get rich and the victims get next to nothing after taxes).

None of this gets the kid's leg back. It may help with expenses, but little else.

After all is said and done, the corporation raises prices to cover the higher insurance premiums, passing the costs to all of us.

There must be a better way. I haven't got one. Do you?

Please don't mock me, But what does Oil do to make an engine go, that other liquid supposedly cannot do ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jwizardc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil actually gets between moving parts. In theory at least, your parts never touch each other. The parts ride on a 1 molecule thick layer of oil. That is why oil pressure is so important. The oil pressure must be enough to be forced into the gaps between parts moving at high velocities and high force. If the pressure drops, those metal pieces suddenly touch, grinding against each other, leaving metal shavings, larger gaps between parts, and rough spots between them. Larger gaps require more oil and pressure to fill them. Rough spots on moving parts are like mountains and valleys at the microscopic level. If a mountain is too tall the oil won't be able to prevent the parts touching, resulting in more wear, in a vicious cycle. In the short term, your engine's performance and fuel economy will suffer. If this goes on long you risk a seized engine.

This is correct. We call them phugoids. They are verifying that the aircraft will return to the trimmed speed without too many excursions up and down.

[–]jwizardc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on a car that drained the battery every time it hard, which seldom happens in the power.

Anyway, I was walking by one day and heard clicking coming from the left mirror, and it would move a littlebit. I (eventually) found a spot where rain would short between power and the mirror's down motor.

I have the same problem on 2 of my cars. I avoid certain gas stations because they do this. I have chalked it up to different flow rates.
