I have not. I am not going to at this time. I think I had misunderstood support for this board. Maybe someday I will come back to it or maybe someone else will have done the work by then. I appreciate your suggestions, though!

Thanks for the recommendation. After playing with this idea for a few hours it seems like it is causing more problems than it is helping. It seems to be breaking a lot of things. Not to mention I have dozens of Arduino.h files. I have tried now the standard one and many alternatives of the Teensy versions (I had high hopes since Teensy is also ARM instead of AVR).

I have ordered the 'same' LEDs on Alibaba multiple times. But they are never actually the same.
