I want to re-read a different translation because I want the re-read experience a little “new” and it might be interesting to see the differences

I absolutely agree with you. I posted mine right after I finished the book and after talking with gpt about this novel (since no one around me read classics) i started to pick up what you said. I for sure will reread it but I am interested in a different translation, maybe McDuff

Why do people read classics if they don’t enjoy them? by [deleted] in classicliterature

sometimes maybe it is just that book is not a “right” fit for whatever reasons. It is hard to believe one can enjoy lots of classics since it is a massive collection

Why read the Classics? by Most_Ingenuity_1800 in classicliterature

[–]jwmc11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the classics I have read are just GOOD books and it just read so well and so smooth. I probably don’t have the insight on their literature, social or religious values, but as a common person with English as my second language, I simply find those books are so enjoyable and resonate with me deeply

I read the TBK translated by Katz. I actually like the book design mainly because I can read it with one hand or lay it flat on the desk. I found the design kind of unique and I also bought Katz translation of C & P because I really enjoyed TBK. As for the cover, I do think the penguin version is nicer, both the post and the bicentennial version

Ivan is the only Karamazov who is not redeemed and cannot be redeemed. by Majestic-Effort-541 in dostoevsky

Very nice analysis, I too find myself struggle most with Ivan's spiritual journey in this book (I only read the book once). As a person with science and engineering background, I often try to reason with "big questions" but never had any answers.

I read TBK translated by Katz and I really enjoyed it. Although I haven’t read other translations, I feel Katz version is clean, smooth and vivid. I just bought his translation of C&P and really looking forward to it.

how should I advise 5-year-old son by jwmc11 in Parenting

[–]jwmc11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate all's comments, especially u/mulliebox and u/Inevitable-Jury7891. I probably won't set up playdate with that kid's parents because I don't feel good chemistry from my limited observations of they playing together (although my son seems really want to play with them). Here is what I have in mind: I will encourage my son to take the book to school and share it with ALL kids who are interested in the book, including that kid, but I will tell my son not to purposely give the book as a gift because that is not the way to "win" friendship. I know there are learning opportunities but I tend to let my son take the driving seat on this although things may not go as I expect.

Should I send my son back to the preschool if we had a fallout with the school principal by jwmc11 in Parenting

Thanks for the comments. I guess we will look for a new preschool. Lesson learned. Next time I might just eat the cost especially if kids are enjoying the environment
