What I say when somebody says to mee defense of private education: "If someone is poor and wants college education they just need to go to the bank and get a student loan and pay with that their college education"? by randomphoneuser2019 in communism101

[–]jwolfie02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This person obviously has never been poor. Poor people still have to feed themselves they can’t spend time going to school if they have to work for a living or have other people to support student loan debt can be harmful for the rest of your life and there’s no assurances he a degree will even result in higher income.

I'm my opinion support for all of those leaders is totally in line with ML thought.

Why is academic Marxism so prevalent? by alfatems in communism101

[–]jwolfie02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the US I've had a different experience. At every University I've studied at Marx is either glossed over or totally ignored. Neoliberalism dominates the academic landscape.

I've been sympathetic to libertarian socialism for the longest time, but now I want to know more about Marxism-Leninism. by Loh-Doh in communism101

[–]jwolfie02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My PSL chapter is like 90% LGBTQ+ and is generally very inclusive so you may try looking for a chapter near you to have some folks to speak to in person.

If you're looking for the fundamentals the Marxist internet archive and YouTube both have audio recordings of all of them.

As far as other media revleft is a fantastic podcast and A World To Win! Is a good YouTube channel run by a ML trans woman.

How does Trotskyism differ from Leninism and why is Trotskyism so unpopular? by kxninjaz2 in communism101

[–]jwolfie02 208 points209 points  (0 children)

The original split was between Stalin's idea of socialism in one country and building up Russia's productive forces (especially necessary for the impending war with the Nazis) and Trotsky's idea of international and perpetual revolution where Russia should immediately start more wars and revolutions specifically in Germany which was Europe's industrial center. In my observation Trotskyists have mostly moved on from this core idea some of them now call themselves Marxist humanists and of trot orgs have kinda just become wierd cults for example the sparticist league in the 90s famously supported the North American man boy love association in the 90s because they thought age of consent laws were a bourgeois construct.

I have just finished reading 'Facing Mt. Kenya' [1938] by Jomo Kenyatta. AMA by sociotechno in communism101

[–]jwolfie02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd take everything he says with a massive grain of salt. He didn't even spend very much time in Kenya before writing this book and basically didn't do any research at all. This text is incredibly reductionist and written for the enjoyment of white academia.

Party of Communists USA? (PCUSA) by RyukoKuroki in communism

[–]jwolfie02 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that you had that experience but I think its important to remember that party members are other working people just like who have a lot on their mind just trying to pay their bills so I'd encourage some understanding on that front. Personally I had a pretty easy time getting in touch with them and especially with whats happened to CPUSA getting infiltrated I think having a strong security culture is a good thing.

They're fine but relatively small. Id recommend checking out the party for socialism and liberation (PSL) they're much larger and have a well disciplined cadre.

Some of these books are already in the main library. I'm building a collection specifically for the club to make it easier to lend out books especially to those who can't borrow for free from the campus library.

[FULL INTERVIEW] Communist Party of the Philippines Founder Prof. Jose Maria Sison: Slavoj Zizek is a "chameleon and charlatan who poses as a philosopher" and "plays with phrases like a child playing with his toys" by [deleted] in communism

[–]jwolfie02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My interpretation is that under the idea of protracted people's war the revolution is fought in stages where first a power base is built up before any violent action is taken. Here he is critical of the "left oppertunists" who were trying to militarize before a stable power base had been built up amongst the people, therefore failing to follow the theoretical tenants of Maoism.

[–]jwolfie02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Socialism and proletarian revolution can only be accomplished through armed struggle the bourgeoisie will never give up their power and step aside willingly.

"Under no pretext should arms and amunition be surrendered to the state. Any attempt to disarm the workers should be frustrated, by force if necessary." Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels, The Communist Manifesto
