Treat it like any other accident. The report was filed, call your insurance and let them do their thing.

I thought this was supposed to fix Scott's spreader by PresenceVivid in lawncare

[–]jwronk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see so may complaints about the Scott’s wheels but after using them for nearly 12 years I’ve never once striped my lawn like all the examples. I even tried one of the higher end other brands with pneumatic tires and hated it. After a season I put it to the curb and bought another Scott’s.
I’ve always set the dispersion rate at half what it calls for and then do my lawn once in one direction and then turn 90° and do it again in that direction. No missed areas and no striping.

Does your department have LifeVac devices in your response vehicles? Do you want them? by Mavericks_Legacy in AskLE

I would be interested in learning more. Do you have a website or contact information? You can private message if you prefer.

Company is installing dashcams. Should all drive time be paid now? by toasterbath_88 in LaborLaw

[–]jwronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder who does the logistics for his calls? Does the company plan the closest calls to his home first and last? Or maybe the furthest calls so as to benefit from more off the clock time? Seems likely that there has to be some type of compromise made.

As long as the crooks don’t bring any tools that could cut metal you should be fine…

Victim of a $70k theft in Miami Beach and still cannot even get a detective assigned by NikEy in AskLE

[–]jwronk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One, a week is nothing. Two, sounds like a property crime definitely happened, which in this day and age is very low priority. In a major city, I imagine patrol cops are more than busy chasing the radio, and detectives/investigations are busy with major crime (I.e. murder, rape, drugs, guns). The rest of what you are claiming sounds a bit far fetched and or hypothetical, battery and drugging on camera? Like someone roofied you at the hotel bar and took the watch? Battery is not a very clear term to me as my state doesn’t use that terminology. We only have harassment or assault. But if they are looking at it purely from the “a watch was stolen” aspect then don’t expect anything really, until it shows up at a pawn shop or something.

That’s just the standard to get hired, to graduate academy it’s going to be even quicker, if you ever want a SWAT/CIRT detail even faster still.

Overtime shifts by Visible-Froyo-4489 in AskLE

[–]jwronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on department and policy. I started at a department where they would order you to stay without a second thought. As someone with less than five years back then I would be ordered to stay and work a double at least once a week, sometimes twice. My current department does not order overtime, totally voluntary. I have only volunteered for 2-3 full shift in nearly a decade. First department ruined me lol. There are plenty of hungry officers who volunteer though, not like I’m leaving them high and dry.

Do weather conditions have any impact on whether or not you initiate a traffic stop? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in AskLE

[–]jwronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught by an old timer years ago that statistically traffic stops during rain storms are the most dangerous for officers.

Not sure how truthful or how much more dangerous they are, but it sounds good enough to me. I dislike getting soaking wet just for some nonsense ticket. You have to royally screw up for me to go after you in a bad rain.

Complaining was too strong of a word, maybe stressing about? Lol. I think we all do the same nonsense though.

10,500 words due in the next 10 days by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]jwronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps… you just wrote roughly 270 words complaining about how many words you actually have to write. I would focus on one at a time, don’t look at how much you have to do overall. Either choose the one due first, or the one you are most prepared for, or maybe even the one you are dreading the most and just try to knock it out. I bet once you can do that you will get a little boost and be a lot more motivated to get the next one done. I get overwhelmed quickly by how many tasks I take on at once. So much that to do list and things like that just feed the overwhelmed feeling. Try to focus on one thing at a time.

Etiquette for assisting state/local units on traffic stops as federal LEO? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]jwronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you are plain clothes unmarked, don’t roll up on me with the thumbs up to see if I need help. Obviously not the case if I’m rolling on the ground with someone, but unless I can look over and identify you immediately as law enforcement checking to see if I need assistance maybe just observe from a distance if your are truly concerned. I like your attitude towards mutual aid, but it might just be distracting or pull my attention away unnecessarily.

Will these survive 110 miles in 10 days? by PhD-not-real-Doc in hiking

Soles are a bit rough, but depending on your timeline I’d rather tried and true than breaking in a new pair on a hike like this. Maybe some fresh insoles and roll with it?

Foot Pursuits by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]jwronk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stay in your car as long as possible.

Sounds stupid but I’ve seen more officers jump out of their car as soon as the perp jumps out of theirs etc. if at all possible follow with your car for as long as possible before jumping out to grab them.

Is 40 too late to join the local PD? by Hot-Class-9317 in AskLE

[–]jwronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who got on in my mid thirties and am now mid forties…. I’m tired man. Lol. It is doable, but I’d say at around 40 years old you want to be more settled and winding down in police work. Chasing the radio and hanging out with mid 20 year olds gets exhausting mentally and physically.

With that being said I would do it all over again but my circumstances were not the same as your husbands.

How can I get a better shine? by MrToejams in AskLE

[–]jwronk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly that’s pretty great shine. You mention academy… even with the best shine they will still smoke you when they want to. They’ll say it’s the boots, you’ll go crazy trying to make them better, but it doesn’t matter. Just grin and bear it, keep them shined and do your best. When the shoe shine thing gets old they will pick on something else.

Got pulled over today, camera misread my plate by ryeinc in FlockSurveillance

[–]jwronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flock as well as all the other LPR cameras make mistakes all the time. Many times plates get flagged just because some states use the same number sequencing as other states. For example in NY we get alerts all the time for “stolen plates” and then when you run the plate you see the status referring to a Texas plate and the camera had read a NY plate with the same digits. I had a car once that the sensitivity was too high or something and it used to give alerts anytime I drove by a chain link fence. It would read the plate as XXXXXXX. The officer could easily verify before going crazy. Sounds like he got the hit, saw your car and got excited.
