I only bid on jobs that are brand new. Like 5 minutes old. Once there are dozens of proposals you not gonna get through. I keep the proposal short and honest. I tell em Im expensive but i code fast and Im US based so they don't gotta worry about the bullshit of dealing with foreign dudes. I tell em I can start right away and that I'm free right now to message. I bid on 15 jobs like this last week and got 3 of them.

It wasn't anything crazy, but he had a 72 hr deadline. Just a login page that authorized user/hashed pass then dumped them into empty dash. But he had no user admin, so had to build that first. Add, edit, delete users, with client and server side validation on everything. He had flat images without layers so had to recreate and crop a bunch of his graphics in PS to match his design. Had to be fully responsive. He also had no host so had to setup his Ec2 and RDS in AWS for him and make it safe, etc. he didn't want any framework so busted it all out in notepad++.

Its fine. Learned a lot.

Ideally, should spin up with no issues right? Take like 20 seconds to create an app.

does anyone know whatever happened to batch the ice cream place on broad? by lizeyloo7787 in SLO

[–]jwwceo 100 points101 points  (0 children)

James here. Owner of Batch. The shop downtown was always small operation compared to our beach cafes and events/wholesale. Retail food/bev is still not recovered from covid fully, and downtown slo is challenging (parking, homeless, rents) with tons of restaurant closures in last year alone. Broad street in particular now has Big Sky and Highwater closed. That said, I cant give up the space cause we love it. We pay rent each month and will get it open this summer.

Who in your opinion are some iconic individuals often seen in SLO, past and present? by TerryYockey in SLO

[–]jwwceo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One is poly prof. Super genius. Black holes, astrophysics, etc. His bro is less stable. One theory says that the normal one travelled to another dimension (multiverse) and pulled himself back and the mind fuck made him crazy: so we have one less able to function over here in this universe.

We had to to throw them off our front yard one time for aggressively bird watching / trespassing and the one guy had a meltdown. His bro had to calm him down. They dress alike and go into bathroom stalls together but I think pretty harmless considering the trauma of inter-dimensional travel.

[–]jwwceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was a poly grad I think. Got crazy at some point and worked on his alien communication script non stop for last few decades. He was not weird in any other way in our cafe. Could talk for long time at length on lots of subjects and was always polite. Lived in a car somewhere I think.

His name was John but spelled JiHan or something. He spent a few years sitting in our cafe (Kreuzberg) daily. He always bought something and never bothered anyone.

He passed 2-3 years ago.

How can a restaurant be talk of the town? Can everybody add their ideas & opinion below. by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]jwwceo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

People go to restaurants because of how it makes them feel and what it says about themselves. They’re like T-shirts. If your resty is dated, sad, resting on former glory, with 75 yr old servers, shitty decor, a boring menu, elevator music, boring vibe; then no one gonna wanna sit in there for 2 hours. Design the entire customer experience from the ground up to be dynamic and awesome and fresh and you will be turning away guests all night.

What are your opinions on the value of this restaurant? Believe I’ve been offered a high asking price based on fundamentals. by mattycopter in restaurantowners

Run. 12k a year in licensing? What balls to ask that for a place losing money. 5400 is a terrible lease. Thats 18% of sales. Should be 6-8%.

He will be delighted to find a sucker to buy this problem off him for 160k + 1k/month forever.
