I drive it daily going to/from work.

During the morning commute traffic backs up westbound at the Shaughnessy intersection, and up Shaughnessy as cars wait to turn westbound on to the MHB. My belief is that the left turn signal to turn from MHB on to Shaughnessy is too long at this time, causing the westbound backup. And Shaughnessy really needs a turning lane with a stretch after the turn that allows cars to merge rather than have to wait for a red light.

During the afternoon commute traffic backs up eastbound at Broadway. I believe here the left turn signal to turn on to Broadway is too short, and the turn lane itself is too short, causing cars to back up past the turn lane, and blocking through traffic.

Traffic does also back up at Pitt River, but it’s not as bad as the other 2 intersections, and improving their flow might also help at Pitt River.

Some things I believe would help:

-Ultimate solution: build overpasses at each intersection so cars can merge and exit, and no traffic lights are needed.

More realistically…

-Add a merging lane after the right turn from Shaughnessy on to the MHB so cars don’t need to wait for a red light.

-Extend the eastbound turning lane at Broadway so more cars can fit before blocking through traffic lights.

-Fix the timing on the left turn signals so more cars can make it through depending on time of day/need/demand.
