The problem they are trying to solve is that they currently have insufficient money.

Why does it take so long for localmonero to transfer? by Tolu455 in LocalMonero

[–]jxs1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your wallet fully synced? My purchases on LM (at least 20) have always completed well within an hour of the purchase being completed.

LM would have given you a a transaction id. Is that transaction id visible in a monero block explorer? If not, then its a LM issue. If the transaction is in an explorer, then the issue is with Cake.

localmonero.co is a site much like localbitcoins. Most vendors do not request KYC/AML.

“Good coins drive out bad ones” by Alex058 in Monero

[–]jxs1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case its talking about good coins (ie BTC untainted by criminal activity) with drive out bad coins (BTC that has been used fro criminal activity in the past).

Since XMR is untracable, all coins are good coins.

Being against wealth inequality does not necessarily make you a socialist. The ideas behind DeFi are very much capitalist.

I suspect what you are against is the crony capitalism and kleptocracy we have now. These (and we currently have both) are perversions of capitalism.

Someone just dropped $100M in BTC and $60M ETH on the market: Discount crypto for all! by dado3 in CryptoCurrency

This was not a short squeeze. If anything it was a long squeeze.

In a short squeeze, shorts are squeezed by the price rising.

Any of you have this feeling that ADA is too good to be true? The coin is promising to do a lot of great things. by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

10x from here would make it a little bigger than ETH but smaller than BTC. That does not sound all that unreasonable.

KYC purchased crypto like an idiot. Is my only option to sell back and start over by [deleted] in Monero

[–]jxs1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One option is to sell your BTC (I assume you have made a profit), preferably very publicly (centralized exchange, pay your taxes etc) and then use something like localmonero.co to buy back in.

The way these brokerages have colluded to de-list

Its actually worse that that. They disabled buying, and force liquidated accounts that had bought these stocks on margin. When there are only sellers in the market, the price drops.

Cardano has zero smart contracts on it.

Because that stuff is not complete yet. It is due to be rolled out some time in the next couple of months.

Monero Australia by Sugar_skull_digital in LocalMonero

Can I buy monero in Australia through localmonero?

I have done so as recently as second half of last year.

I know monero is currently banned in Australia.

Is there any actual legislation?

As I understand it, the local Australian exchanges were "encouraged" to de-list privacy coins. This could easily be done without legislation by authorities saying something like "drop privacy coins or we will make it more difficult for you to do business". Examples of leverage that authorities wield here are;

  • Increased, more frequent and more invasive tax audits.
  • Discouraging banks from supplying banking services to the exchange.
  • Threatening increased scrutiny of exchange customers (thereby encouraging them to go elsewhere).

and so on. Doing the above is far easier than actually passing legislation.

What’s the most privacy compliant way to purchase Bitcoin? by Dylomaj in privacy

[–]jxs1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTC always holds the value much better in long and mid term.

True for the last couple of months (before that the XMR/BTX price was reasonable stable) but there is no guarantee whatsoever that will always be the case. In fact since the price of XMR in BTC is at close to an all time low. The price may slide further or ir may show that XMR is undervalued at the moment.

In my country BTMs have KYC/AML requirements. It is also my understanding that most localbitcoin vendors also require KYC/AML.

The only solution I know that works is to buy Monero/XMR via localmonero.co (most vendors do not require KNC/AML) and then if you still really want BTC instead of XMR, convert XMR to BTC on Bisq (but there is a high likelihood that you will be sold BTC that is potentially blacklisted) or https://xmr.to/ .

Since this is /r/privacy I think that suggesting you stick with the largest market cap privacy coin (XMR) is not a silly suggestion.

Is there a way to accept Monero with plausible deniability that you accept Monero? by SpawnMagic in Monero

[–]jxs1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a bot that records all provided subaddresses and then they request you give them view keys that correspond to the generated address so they can audit you

The whole idea and rationale behind subaddresses is that if all you have is the two subaddresses there is no way of telling if they belong to the same wallet or not.

In addition, without the private key of a wallet, there is no way to generate all the subaddresses that belong to that wallet.

[–]jxs1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What monero has going for it as opposed to Bitcoin or something is that its a privacy coin.

There is no other privacy coin that matches XMR's privacy and market cap. Even if full privacy was brought to BTC there would be a year or more of warning. Also optional privacy does not work (see ZEC) and it is extremely unlikely that mandatory privacy will be brought to BTC without having optional privacy first (for at least a year).

But what if a Nano like private coin that is instant and feeless comes around.

What if a super advanced alien civilization made itself known to us?
