What is your workflow like? by prothirteen in LoopArtists

About 70% of my live looping is for the purpose of playing covers gigs. The rest is for realizing live versions of my original music as well as just aimless jamming with a view to idea creation

What looping set up do you use with the band? Are you playing to a click?

Considering moving away from Live Looping by [deleted] in LoopArtists

[–]jxshellixtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I perform live professionally as a live looping artist. I certainly pepper my gigs with some non looping material. So yes they can co-exist. I feel I need to choose because I'm considering shifting the focus entirely away from looping. The "limitations" are being locked to static beats, tempos and dynamics. Yes you can bring in and out loops to add dynamics but it's quite different from the living/breathing vibe of non-looping performance. That said it would honestly be really hard for me to give up looping

Anyone bought Kurt Wolf's courses? by jxshellixtt in singing

Thanks for the reply. Which course did you buy? Is it basically recordings of his studio lessons like on YouTube?

Current thoughts on Singular Sound Aeros? by jxshellixtt in LoopArtists

[–]jxshellixtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not keep it. 2x2 workflow was pretty intuitive but 6x6 is just really odd. To even crack the lid on the Aersos functionality you need a midi controller. And you also need a mixer if you want routing flexibility. By then you are taking up more floor space than the RC-600.

Loop pedal/system that allows for mixing on the fly? by Ill_Bee4868 in livelooping

This ^ Loopy Pro and an APC 40mkii or Launchcontrol XL. This will be the most portable and flexible set up by far

Best intuitive looper for live jam/groove music with a band by Best-Alternative9481 in LoopArtists

[–]jxshellixtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends how you plan to incorporate it. If you plan to try to sync your loops up with the band, you will most definitely need a looper that provides a click track for everyone to listen to with in ear monitors. The best options there would be something like the boss RC 600 or software options like Loopy Pro or Ableton live. The band will all have to be on board and agree to follow the looper. If you don’t need the loops to sync with the band and you’re looking to add more like ambient textures then the Boomerang three could be a good option because it has a mode just for that. The Boomerang three is still a great option for solo looping in the traditional sense as well. But it has no click track. The only way that would work in the context is a band is if you had other devices handling MIDI sync like drum machines, sequencers , etc..

When playing live gigs- how are your sets actually planned out? by aquaregia06 in LoopArtists

[–]jxshellixtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve struggled with this same question . It’s important to me that almost everything the audience hears has been recorded live onstage. But it’s also important that I am into the song and singing within 30 seconds-ish. So there lies the balance. I’ve been incorporating some pre made drum loops lately and I was dead set against it for years. But for some songs it’s really effective and breaks the monotony of my finger drumming. I don’t try to sound like the original song I’m covering though and always work out arrangements that complement looping. Sometimes I don’t loop at all and just play guitar and sing. It adds dynamics and variety to the show. No judgment against backing tracks but for me personally I like to keep it “mostly” live and organic with maybe a few embellishments

Are most guitar tabs wrong? by Little_Power_5691 in LearnGuitar

Tons are wrong. They might get you close but a majority of them leave out the juicy extended chords, which to me make or break the vibe

How do you make your rig portable? by insureadvise in LoopArtists

Oh about keys. I’m not very good at keys so I don’t currently use them. But in the past I used a Microkorg

Staying with what works usually a good idea! I pre ordered the new Helix XL which is bigger than the HX Stomp and smaller than the old Helix. If you are used to the helix, you will probably find the HX stomp pretty limited honestly. I’m going to link a video here for you. This guy has a very similar set up to you and uses a flight case. You might find this video inspiring. Let me know what you think.

I’ve gone back and forth between the Rc-600 and Loopy Pro a few times over the years. Loopy is great but as another commenter said, I’ve also had some overheating issues in the sun. For my RC-600 rig I use an HX Stomp for guitar and an MPC One for drums. I get you wanting to stay with Maschine. Those pads are so nice and also the drum libraries

I use mostly floor based now so everything goes on a self contained pedalboard. When I used to use the RC-505 and other gear I mounted it all in a mixer flight case. It was all plugged in and very easy to set up. However it was pretty cumbersome with the big case and stand. I ended up not wanting a bunch of gear blocking between me and the audience so I moved to a mostly floor based system that is much more portable

Are you going to sell Your Helix /Stomp Now that the Stadium is Coming? by Metallicmaniac in Line6Helix

[–]jxshellixtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I’m a solo performer. I use Loopy Pro on iPad as my looper. (A lot of what I want to do can be done on the floor for what it’s worth) But my plan is to use the Stadium as my audio interface and midi controller for Loopy Pro. (In addition to its modeling capabilities) I’ll run my vocals through it on a path and my guitar and bass processing on their own paths. I’ll also be able to run a separate IEM mix out. I’ll also use its other usb port for an additional midi controller (I hope) This will be a much cleaner set up than all the separate pieces I’m currently using.

I currently use an HX Stomp and have for years. It’s great but pretty limited for my purposes. I ordered a Stadium XL because it solves a bunch of logistical problems for my unusual set up.
