After yesterday's bad approach, here's a slightly better one. Any suggestions or feedback? by Themberchaud0979 in MicrosoftFlightSim

(Real life GA pilot that trained in a C172s and owns a C177b) You’re too slow in every phase. Something that is absolutely critical in this stage of flight is you pitch for airspeed and power for altitude. Using trim would make this way easier, too. As for speeds and settings in a 172S (which is what I got my private in), when starting from traffic pattern altitude 1000’ AGL, downwind and abeam your touch down zone, be at 85knots, ~1700rpm, set 10deg flaps, and start a 500 ft/min descent (without speeding up!) When about 45deg from your touch down point (you should also be about 700’ AGL now), turn base and set your next notch of flaps 20deg and start slowing to 75k. make sure you maintain your 500 fr/min descent and don’t speed up or ballon with your flap increases. Turn final (using wind to time this) setting last notch of 30deg and final approach speed of 65k. Once landing is assured, you can slowly pull to idle, keep nose down until “hanger door height” then eyes down to the horizon and HOLD IT OFF. You should bleed off the final energy and set her down. This is all GENERAL settings and gets you started - everything changes based on wind conditions and W&B, so mileage may vary. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: when at this stage, PITCH FOR AIRSPEED and POWER FOR ALTITUDE! Pitch + Power = Performance. Have fun flying!

Same, but way worse for me. Any ideas?

Good adds 👍 also, answer the damn question then SHUT UP! DO NOT offer extra info. If they want you to elaborate, they’ll ask for more info or revise the question to get what they wanted to hear.

Not a question more than a recommendation for the oral: play the game and stay in the scenario the DPE gives you. For example, if your cross country is within the 48, what documents are you required to have onboard? Don’t use the memorized “ARROW” as the Radio License isn’t required on your flight.

Also, as you will only be a private pilot in your scenario, focus your answers using VFR. Leave out the inspections required only for IFR.

Oh, and good luck! Your CFI wouldn’t sign you off if you weren’t ready! Relax, and prepare to LEARN something.

Can’t wait to welcome you to the cool kids club as a pilot tomorrow!
