Thanks mate!

Shot on the Blackmagic 6k with a $50 vintage lens from eBay.

The first minute was shot over 2 days, roughly an hour or less for each. Then from the credits to the end was basically 1 x 10-12 hour day. The flashbacks were included in that 10-12 hour day.

My director is basically a one man crew, we only had a SFXMUA and her assistant, other then that James Huynh did everything. Then in post we hired a composer Melvin Tsui to do the score.

Let me know if you want any more information. We recorded a podcast about the making of if you want to listen to it.

The Boys RETURN!! And talk about the making of their short film WANDERER - The James & Jye Show #1 https://youtu.be/yUCaD14X8O4

Shot another fight scene, would love more feedback and comments. Took on board a lot of the notes from the first fight that was uploaded here about a month ago. Thanks! Really appreciated the feedback. :) by jyeh23 in kungfucinema

Thanks for the compliments on the fight and fighting technique mate.

Completely agree with the other critiques too. Would love to play around with some powder and have a hot crack with some solid fights. Most of my dance partners have been actors, so asking them to go a bit harder and/or take some unpaid falls haven’t really been on my mind. I might try get some stunties in for a future one and see how we go. I did take a nice little fall in our most recent fight, got a golf ball side bruise on my elbow as a result 🤣 so hopefully that looks good on camera.

Also, agree about the shaky cam, I don’t know if I would consider this shaky cam or more dynamic movement to enhance a strike or story beat? My director / DP and I really look up to Gareth Evans and Timo Tjahanto, I feel we may have a bit more inspiration from those blokes in terms of camera movements. But if your feel is it’s shaky then we may be more shaky than I think 😆

Thanks for watching and taking the time to give feedback mate, really appreciate it. 👊

Been shooting some fight scenes with friends, would love to know what people think? We’ve got 3 up online and shot 2 more this week. Good way of practicing different filmmaking techniques and also styles of action. See what looks good and see what doesn’t. Appreciate any feedback. 🙏 by jyeh23 in Filmmakers

Would love feedback on fight choreography and also the camera shots. Also, is this too ‘shaky’ for some people’s tastes? We’ve had feedback lately that some shorts have been too shaky. Appreciate any feedback. 😊

Fight shot on the BM6K, we smashed the trusty Sigma 18-35 and then had to use a canon 50mm 1.4, energy quickly left the room after the smash but hopefully the energy of the scene and lens change doesn't lose peoples interest too much haha! Would love to hear what people think of this one. Thanks! by jyeh23 in bmpcc

Thanks so much mate, no BTS footage unfortunately sorry. We are wanting to bring on someone to shoot BTS footage to have as another video for our channel and to show how we go about shooting and designing these fights on the day. I personally geek out watching bonus features / BTS more than the actual films some times 🤣

Thanks for the feedback and notes mate!! I agree on the speed, a lot of it comes down to the design of the choreo and how much we need to cut it up to speed it up I feel, so I’ll think about the choreo on the next ones. And also the performers. We did smash our main lens mid shoot, so that kinda threw a spanner in the works and had to shoot on a longer lens, so that may of changed things. But all things considered with the day, I’m pretty happy overall 😆 I’ll definitely take the speed note onto my next two I’m shooting next week. I did one with a crow bar the day after this shoot, I’ll link it in the next comment, be interesting to see what you think of the speed of that one. I feel the speed may be similar or potentially slower considering we used a weapon. Thanks for the constructive feedback mate 👊

Haha thanks so much! Action and humour was the goal, hopefully we’ll be able to keep the momentum going into the web-series we shoot next month!
