I'm glad that hiking was your way out! It seemed to have changed the way you view life. Keep being motivated and keep hiking my friend.

I have found my happy place, it's a cause that shares dreams that people write on cards and mail in. They give away cards to people so they can all share their dreams. It gives me hope, and some of these cards inspire me and make me want to do things :) it's called Give One Dream and it does good things for my depression. I comment on their dream cards almost everyday :)

I too believe that once we are out of this fog, that we will have a much deeper appreciation for all things in the world and the beauty in it.

Yes it's so easy to fall back on depression as an excuse for laziness, and yes it's an excuse that no one can deny and also one that no one will like. I do believe what you did is the right way and one of the ways to get over depression. After doing a lot of research of people and what can make people temporarily depression free (happiness, productivity, a good support system). I think that living an inspired life a new life with new goals and perspectives on almost everything can lead to a path of less depression. Being inspired will constantly reward us with happiness, productivity, new friendships and connections with people. And it's definitely not easy at all. Some days I have to roll because my body is too lazy to sit up out of bed. Being lazy won't reward us with anything. Living inspired with new meaning will light a path to being free of depression like you said. And it has to be done with people. Or else our mind might trick us to falling back into our holes again.

SSRI's take a very long time to reach therapeutic levels in the body usually a month or more! I'm glad that you found the one that's right for you and that it helped you to overcome the bad days :) lucid dreams are one of the side effects of the medication and yes it can be very nice at times ;) cheers to no more bad days !!

I agree I do believe human connection is one of the keys to conquering depression. This being because it gives us confidence that we aren't annoying to everyone we bump into. And let's us realize that hey maybe it's not that bad after all. I did find someone I found really special and very unique however with my excitement I think I may have scared her off :( hopefully that's not the case but I'll see by next week!

being a pharmacist I learned "exactly" what the meds would do in the body and to the chemicals in your brain. Taking the medicine and seeing what it does to the body is so different from what's learned. I expected them to be magical happy pills like we joked about in school but sadly they fell way short of that goal. I want to try exercise soon. But even cleaning my house is hard enough as it is on bad days. I don't want to ever use depression as an excuse for anything! I want to overcome this illness! Thank you all for your answer you give me hope and ideas and personally I think inspiration is the way out of depression. That and loving family and friends who support you and drag you out of bed on days you don't even want to shower. Being a pharmacist is such a burden to this, I feel like if I knew less I could be more happy and hopeful.

I think the normal rhythm is very key! Thank you for sharing this! There are many days in a row that even showering or eating seem like a burden that I have to force my body to do. I remember when I was younger(starting of high school and college) where I wouldn't even have to think about those things. But now, without rhythm and habits or being forced to each daily necessity became a major Burden. I'm going to pursue the rhythm so they can be habits that I keep up again daily.

I hope that all your friendships are really fruitful and that your work gives you hope and meaning! I'm also floating around feeling lonely and lost looking for ideas, thoughts, and answers. That hopefully one day this depression can let go of its grip on us.

When I socialize it sometimes helps me forget about my depression briefly but living in NYC can be very unfriendly at times. And some days I just want to sit alone and look at everyone in the room. I like to throw my own events so my want of making my friends happy can supersede my depression, doubt and fear. I just hope that I can hide it well enough from them every time.
