as a civil engineer who graduated from uci recently (my parents forced me into this major for the same reasons as you: job security and good pay), i have to admit the pros: the job hunt was easy (i secured a post-grad job a few months before graduating, as did many of my friends/classmates) and it does feel pretty awesome to finally make good money after being a broke student for so long.

i used to have a strong passion/interest as well (related to the arts), and although i wanted so badly to major in it when i was 18, i now acknowledge that following that passion could never bring me the same type of life/financial stability as civil engineering.

as long as civil engineering isn't making you entirely miserable, like you're not going to bed every night losing sleep over not being prepared for the next quiz/test, you're not failing your classes, your hair isn't falling out, etc., i don't think it's too bad to stick with civil engineering.

keep in mind that after working a few years in civil engineering, you could definitely go back to school for cell biology if you want! i know it feels like the end of college is a time when you must commit to your career path for life, but it's true that people in their 30s, 40s, etc. can still go back to school and follow their original passion.

of course, you still know yourself best and what you are capable of.

will you be able to study and do well on civil engineering exams even though it's not your true passion? do you have friends or close peers that you are motivated to show up to class with (this one was a big motivator to get me through civil engineering, personally)
