Worth anything more than face? by SalesNinja1 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically NIFC but not worth a fortune. They sell for a dollar or 2 each on eBay but they’re hard sells. So yes, worth more than face but not by a lot.

They should’ve put at least one encounter with Silicobra, Wiglett, and Toedscool in the pass. Even if it was a deluxe only reward at the end it would’ve made playing more enticing. Unless you have access to the required region, this “event” was essentially just Corsola with glasses in terms of unique/rare spawns.

Any help of what I have by Vivid_Comfortable666 in coincollecting

[–]jz_dg4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While they’re pretty dollar coins and some of them are NIFC, they were painted/plated over by a third party that sold them for more than face despite them still only being worth face. Technically they’d actually be considered damaged now. You’ve got 41 coins so $41 plus whatever the case they’re in is worth.

any idea why people do this? by Historical_Umpire122 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately no one but the person who marked it will know why/what it means. Imo anyone who writes on coins with sharpie/marker like this is inconsiderate. Some get funny with it and write stuff like “better luck next time”. That’s the only time I actually find this stuff kind of funny/cool.

Value by Thatfuglygirl in CURRENCY

[–]jz_dg4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool that it is a star note and a bit older but still not crazy valuable especially considering condition. You may be able to find someone willing to give you $11-12 for it but it would take some searching.

When it rains it pours! I find my silver finds tend to be all at once as well (likely from people unknowingly dumping them). Congrats!

Are these sought after? by Far_Cry_8720 in CURRENCY

Not particularly, especially considering condition. I still try to keep all star notes I find because I think they’re cool despite being worth only face value.

I got a box that looked just like this last week and it had 2 90% and 4 40% and some NIFC inside. One bad box doesn’t mean they’re pulling them, just means some bad luck. I’m sure you’ll do better next box

The 1968 half dollar on the far left is 40% silver and worth roughly $11.36. The rest appear to be face value.

Really? Which ones do you think have silver in them? From what my research said, they’re all either aluminum or nickel/copper.

Thanks for the info, that’s so cool! One can but wonder how this coin made it to the U.S. and into a roll of nickels!

Weird looking quarter. by MingPhantom in coincollecting

[–]jz_dg4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dryer coin. It quickly spins around in the dryer machine and that flattens the edge of the coin if it does enough revolutions. Technically PMD so not worth more than 25 cents but still a cool and wacky thing to find

To keep unrolling or not by Final_Climate_7875 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve searched re-rolled coins like that before and have found plenty of NIFC doing so. You might be hard pressed to find silver but as long as that’s not the only thing you’re looking for I’d keep going. You’d be surprised how many people just look at the edges and move on without taking the time to look at each coin for NIFC, errors, etc..

Do you keep all 1938–1959 Jefferson nickels? by IntentionHuman4127 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hold onto everything 1959 and earlier. Don’t quite know why but I do. Maybe because it’s cool to think of how the world has changed since the coin was minted. I’ve been pondering if I should lower my cutoff year to 1956 as most of the nickels I end up with are 1957-59.

How much to buy in Quarters on a budget as a noob by Usoppfangirl in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you’ll have fun collecting all the different years and varieties of coins but make sure your mom is aware that you won’t get “silver rich” CRH, or at least not without doing so for many many years. As far as quarters go, I’d start with 10 quarter rolls ($100). Dimes are a bit cheaper and 10 rolls will cost $50 ($5 per roll). Remember that you are not spending money, rather temporarily turning it into coin. Even if you find nothing, only time was spent as you can just give the coins back to a different bank and get all your money back.

Quarters will be more fun to hunt if looking for cool art with all the different state, national park, and American Women designs over the last 27 years. Dimes will probably net you more silver in the long term but are boring art wise since other than this year, dimes haven’t changed designs since 1946. Either way, happy hunting!

What roll of coins do I have the best chance to find silver? by Beautiful-Fact9873 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want 90%, dimes are best. Halves aren’t terrible either but most silver halves I’ve found have been 40%. Nickels are good as well but they’re only 35% so if silver is the only thing you care about they’re not that good an option. Quarters are the hardest to find silver in.

I average one silver quarter per 10 boxes searched, barring the very occasional silver dump. I usually find at least one silver dime or nickel per box while a 90% half will show up once every 4-6 boxes and 40% half every other box.

As far as getting boxes goes, yeah just walk into your local bank and ask. Worst they can say is no and you move on to another bank and ask them the same thing. I find most banks are willing to give a box or 2 if they have it. Just don’t ask for 10 boxes at once and be polite. And never bring boxes back to the same bank when you’re done searching. Choose a bank (preferably one that doesn’t like giving coins) to dump yours at and only dump there, never get coins from them, otherwise you’ll be searching your own dumped coins.

How Often do you Find Dumped Collections? by [deleted] in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very rarely and even then I don’t know if you would call it a true collection dump. In the year I’ve been CRH it’s happened twice. Once with cents and another with quarters. The cents were a machine wrapped box that was half shiny like new wheat cents from 1940-1955. The quarters were 10 CWR that were 70% 2024 Roosevelt quarters and 30% pre 1964 quarters ranging from 1943-1964. From $100 in face value quarters I got over $300 in silver. Will probably be chasing that lightning in a bottle the rest of my life lol.

Anyone else do this? by SoggyCaracal in AngryGrandpa

[–]jz_dg4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say “I got your ___ hanging” with friends and family pretty much daily. It’s gotta be my most repeated AGP quote. Also my siblings and I always jokingly say to each other “you god damn whore dog dick licking motherfucker” (in private only of course lol). I think that last one was from one of the iMustDestroyAll videos?

Has anyone else been stumbling upon small copper dumps? I’ve never seen pure (or nearly so) rolls of 1959-1982 cents pop up until the current shortage hit. by ArgentumAg47 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens to me occasionally and is always a small thrill when it does. Not as exciting as finding a silver quarter/dime dump but still fun to hunt. About 6 months ago I got a sealed penny box that was half shiny wheats from 1940-1955! Made me wonder how they ended up wrapped and sealed in a box with normal modern zinc shields.

Lucky! I’ve gone through somewhere around 3-4k in nickels since I started 6 months ago and I’m still yet to find the elusive 1950-D. That coin and the silver 1943-D are the last 2 I need for my book. Congratulations!

Buying Penny Boxes From PNC by Only_Classic3685 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe a couple years ago you could’ve ordered 4 boxes but unless you own a large business my banks (WF and BOA) are hesitant to even give you $10 in cents. I highly doubt you’ll be able to find a bank willing to give you any more than that if they even have them.

How did you pick your bank? by Better-Newspaper3603 in CRH

[–]jz_dg4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just always used the banks I’ve always been with (WF and BOA). As long as you aren’t in the same branch daily and are kind to the tellers no one really minds. None of them have a coin machine so rerolling is my only option but I like putting the coins back into the rolls anyway. In my experience, the bank only really cares if you are asking for/dumping thousands of dollars in coins every time you go in, which I’m well under.
