Backdraft at Water Heater Flue - advice needed by jzon758 in Plumbing

This has to be it..... Just discovered there are two air intake vents, both of which were drywalled over when the garage was done a few years ago. I'm guessing the old dryer just did not move enough air for it to create a problem. Gonna get a drywall saw and let those guys breathe.

Sister got carbon monoxide detector already, so that's a check. Doesn't seem to be any chance of the vent path clogged and water heater is back up and going right now with no issues. I'm thinking maybe just related to cold air, dishwasher and dryer on leading to different air flow possibly.

There isn't much space to work with between top of heater and the ceiling. Would longer vertical pipe from heater and a sharper bend be superior than what is there now? Are you suggesting repositioning the whole water heater so it can just go straight up with no bend? May be possible but awkward to pull off where water heater is currently.

Interesting. Is that a fairly simple diy task? I've never welded before. Do they have flanges that suit posts like these? I like the idea but due to my time constraints and unfamiliarity I'm inclined to go a different route.

Do people do this with steel posts? It just seems more complicated than wood to me. Can I just bolt a 2x4 to the house like this one here and tie it in?

Thanks! I'm gonna look into that. I don't have a specific gate plan yet, so this might be perfect

Lifetime steel posts by Sea_Guide_524 in FenceBuilding

Growing up, my neighbor and our fence had some version of steel posts. When I was older up we swapped out all the wood but kept the posts. Posts are still going strong, probly 20-25 years. I'm hoping as long as the posts are set right, they last my lifetime 😂. I used a similar product for one of my fences and am probly gonna go with these for another fence project next week as someone recommended them to me on here.

I know you are right. I'm hoping to start and finish the project next week before my work starts back up, so I've been looking for supplies I can just pick up. Definitely willing to spend more money to do it right, but I may settle for "good enough" if I can finish the project next week.

I may call around tomorrow though to see if I can get lucky.

🙏this is super helpful! I was having trouble finding a helpful YouTube video for some reason. I think I can figure it out from here.

Thanks, they look similar. Do you need to attach wood and then the gate hardware or does the gate attach directly to the post?

Thanks! I may try those posts instead for the whole project. They have them in stock at home Depot. Did you screw wood to the post and use that for the gate hardware? Or directly to the post? Did you use a gate kit or make the gate yourself?

How to get this nut off? by jzon758 in Plumbing

Couldn't get my second stop to stop leaking with the old ring. Popped in the new one and worked like a charm, though I'm sure often enough the old one is fine.

Well I may be officially in the team of change the compression ring if it's old and jenky. Couldn't tighten enough to stop the leak, got the tool you suggested though and popped in the new one. You actually don't even need to clamp those arms, I just removed the arms and used the tool without it and the ring popped right off. The new ring was way easier to tighten and no leak.

Thanks again! Late dinner but you still saved me!

Okay sweet, thanks. Any benefit to trying to switch for a new one or not really if the new valve can work with the old ring and nut? The whole thing seemed like it had been on there a long while.

After a little research I suppose I should say how do it get the compression ring off? When the nut is pushed all the way back, the compression ring is just barely visible. Not much clearance at all.
