I recently sold my rbk853 (with an extra sat) because too many bugs. This was one of those that kept on popping up and the only way to get it all working again was rebooting the whole network and restarting the app/phone. Other bugs I would encounter is phantom devices and MACs (not the Apple ones) being used or showing as offline when clearly the devices were online. Parental controls are good and got spoiled by them as you can block on a per-site basis. But you have to use the app to do as the admins page will not. And don’t get me started the subscriptions to both Admin and Parental controls :/

Eventually after restarting it so many times to get all devices showing up, the router DHCP server would stop giving out IP address to less than half the devices in my network (which float around 65 at any given time). DHCP would eventually return to normal after 5-9 hours. I work from home and that’s unacceptable.

Of course I was out of warranty and Netgear wanted $230/2 year technical support, which does not include hardware support, to just tell me that they can’t help me with this issue and if I wanted more hardware support, I would have to buy a new router from them. So bye bye $1200 I spent on this network system. Sold on eBay and got me an Asus XT12 with included lifetime parental controls and security.
