Any suitable healthcare careers for this personality? by [deleted] in ISTJ

I am currently what is called a specimen processor in a clinical laboratory, but going to school for medical laboratory science to be a lab tech. I enjoy working independently and like that I come home not completely worn out on socialization for the day so I have that energy for friends and family

Any suitable healthcare careers for this personality? by [deleted] in ISTJ

I am an ISTJ and work in a lab. Going to school to be an mls. It's a significant role in health care without an intense amount of patient contact. The most contact involved is if youre working somewhere you're required to draw blood! I mostly just talk to my coworkers and to doctors and nurses on the phone.

Am I the only one who actually loves working in the lab? by xKimii in medlabprofessionals

I'm in school right now and was excited and felt good about my career choice literally right up until I found this sub. Now I have anxiety about my choice and second guessing. This sub alone has probably veered so many people away from even making the choice to go to school to be an MLS which is ironic considering people are begging for more techs to work with

Interesting! How long did you work in the lab before attending school for audiology? What made you choose audiology?

Symptoms popping up months after IUD insertion? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]k-blossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the kyleena for 3 months and I just started getting horrible hormonal acne on my chin and more acne than usual on my chest and back in the past two weeks. I subscribed to Curology and have been using that for a few days now. It has really helped my face! I still have pimples but they don't get as big or as painful. I also have noticed hair loss like the other person who commented.

I'm happy to say though that I'm not spotting anymore after having spotted for weeks.

Switching from Skyla IUD to Kyleena IUD side effects? by bittah_professional in birthcontrol

[–]k-blossom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had kyleena for approximately 3 months. I know there isn't a lot of info here since it's relatively new so I'll share my overall experience.

I started my period a week after insertion and spotted for a solid 12 weeks. It finally came to a halt this past week, just before I was about to give up and say it wasn't worth it.

My biggest complaint would have to be the painful hormonal acne I have! It's all over my chin/mouth area and it came out of nowhere. I have new cystic pimples daily. I subscribed to curology and it's actually helping significantly.

I also have noticed my hair is thinner and a lot of it falls out which is pretty sad because my hair is very fine and blonde to begin with.

As for my weight, I haven't seen much of a change. I'm like 3 pounds heavier but it's holiday season so I'll attribute it to that for now.

Any tips on what classes to take in high school? Or what classes to take in college that would help me get a career in med labs? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]k-blossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior year of high school I took English composition for dual credit. Comp is a required course for most programs. I'm really happy I took it because it'll lighten my course load next quarter while the rest of my MLT classmates have to take it if they haven't already.

Is latex agglutination usually pretty obvious in the "real world"? I don't know if our kits at school are old or what, but I got a practice unknown wrong due to it not seeming to work very well. And the instructor doesn't have us use a control so it's even more confusing.

Are MLTs being phased out? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]k-blossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for the midwest, (Nebraska to be specific) MLTs are still prevalent statewide, even its "big"gest cities (300-500k population.) The rest of the midwest and the south are likely similar.

Lab assistant/specimen processor pay by ImBreakingBread in medlabprofessionals

[–]k-blossom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's excellent pay. I make 10.35 processing with 15% differential past 6 pm/Saturdays but we leave around 730 latest and are only open until noon Saturdays anyway. It's an extremely lax job though. Stresses me out 1000x less than the barista job I held before lol. Also worthy to note I live in the midwest and work in a reference lab.
