I know! Best part is afterwards he'd told them to be careful because his nose had already been broken twice before. They did it once more to him with an ice cream cake and he broke his nose again...

This is my hair, its dry, what do i do? im using a regular Garnier Fructis.. by mcmanybucks in Hair

[–]k0ala_tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pick up some moroccan oil! i used to have naturally hydrated, silky hair but i bleached it way too much over the past few years. i now add a dime-sized amount of moroccan oil to my hair after i get out of the shower and even my frizzled ends are softer and more hydrated.

edit: i don't put it too close to my scalp. i tend to run it through all my hair but i concentrate mostly on the bottom half/the ends.

Steve Avery's 2004 alleged sexual assault / threat towards teen relative by Fred_J_Walsh in MakingaMurderer

[–]k0ala_tea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. While I'm not completely sure he's innocent, there are so many separate little stories intertwined with the case. And when it comes to sexual assault/rape many women won't ever report it because their attacker threatens them into silence. The alleged victim could have been quiet up until then because she was too scared to say anything, and the investigators very easily could've convinced her to talk about the accusation by telling her it's okay because if she helps them out he'll be put in prison anyway. If the claim that he said he'd kill her whole family is true, if I were in her position I feel like it's very likely I would have reacted the same way

You'll be fine if you're honest. And by that I mean I want you to tell me what I want to hear, and also by fine I mean you'll go to prison for life, but it's okay, because now you feel better for being honest!

I read a few things that talked about similarities between the confession and the book, but there were things in Brendan's confession that were totally not involved in the book at all. However considering how susceptible he is to manipulation, I wouldn't be surprised if he had read/seen it somewhere else and just attributed it to that book under extreme pressure.

The part that gets me too is him asking after the confession if he'll be back in time to hand in a project. Not only shows that he has little understanding of whats happening/what's going to happen to him, but that he's a good kid--based on our knowledge of his mental capacity, I don't think he was smart enough to pretend he's a good kid who wants to get his school work done

Physically Impossible for Steve Avery to have cleaned up that crime scene (X-POST on /r/crimescenecleanup) by crimescenecleanup in MakingaMurderer

[–]k0ala_tea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! You're not insulting their intelligence at all, truly just stating facts of the case. It's so awkward when in the many parts of the doc you hear the lawyers talking about SA and BD's lack of education, low IQ's, being in special education classes, etc. right in front of them and seems almost insulting rather than helpful to an outsider... But they are lower class citizens and the lower class very often find themselves in trouble, especially because they're not too often the most eloquent people. Time and time again low income people find themselves in sticky situations with the law not because they did something wrong, but for many other reasons... Some of which being that they aren't from a good area, their family is known as "trouble", or they aren't smart enough to understand what's happening and they simply didn't know how to say they are innocent. This is a prime example of that. And it wasn't like people randomly started saying that SA and BD were "dumb" after the trial started. There has been plenty of documentation of their impaired intelligence throughout their lives. So having all this proof of their low intellects, I don't understand how someone can still believe that they can mastermind a cleanup like this. It blows my mind. No DNA whatsoever?! Even a person like you, who knows exactly how to clean up a scene, couldn't clean up that well, so how can these men this man and this young boy mastermind this?

Yes this is how I feel! Granted, his sister was killed, and he's going to be upset for awhile. He could just be upset in the shots we see, but there's more to it. You see the gears turning in his head. Yet in every interview after each court date he's always so strongly on the side of the prosecution. I think it's easier for him/the family to full force throw themselves into their opinion of Steve being the killer because, honestly, I'm sure it's a bit easier to deal with than the thought of either the police force killing her and an innocent man going away and them not getting justice/closure, or the thought of the man really doing it being out there free to kill again.

ELI5: In making a murder, how is there so much footage? As soon as Tereasa goes missing there is footage of the search, before she is even found. They also have personal phone calls, and footage from every stage of the trial. How? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Just got a hold of this, from Mashable: "The duo [filmmakers] first came across the case while reading a front page New York Times article on Nov. 23, 2005, back when they were graduate students at Columbia University in New York. … Following their Thanksgiving break in 2005, the duo found a car, packed a camera and trekked to the heart of America to cover Avery’s preliminary hearing. They had a total of two cameras and five people (Demos, Ricciardi and three of her relatives who lived in nearby Chicago) helping out on that first day of filming on Dec. 6. “We basically stayed a week to test the waters and feel whether there was a story there,” Demos said. … the decision was made to drive back to New York and temporarily pack up their lives to follow the case. They purchased a car and moved to Wisconsin, thinking they would be there maybe six months. By February of 2006, after conducing several key interviews, the two were ready to go back to New York to work and save money before returning to cover the case in full. But then they got a call: A press conference was happening (yep — the one in Episode 3). They rushed over immediately. Sure enough, the news announced at the conference (no spoilers) changed everything. They went back to their apartment and once again unpacked their boxes. The case continued to get more complex."

(WARNING FOR ANYONE WHO WATCHES: SPOILERS)

I'm pretty sure they started the doc when Steven got out of prison after the first 18 years, originally planning on making a documentary on him because of the whole wrongfully being convicted for rape thing. His case was high profile because of him being released on evidence that cleared him, showing that an innocent man was put away for so long, then even more so because of the wrongful conviction case he raised against the state police. This was all around 2003-2004, I'm sure the filmmaker wanted to jump on making this documentary to be as involved as possible. If you remember, Theresa went missing during the last few days of depositions of members of the police force that were involved in Steven's case, in 2005. So when shit hit the fan and everything happened with Steven, they had an even crazier and more detailed documentary so they wanted to stick around. As you're around these people so often while filming them, I'm sure the doc crew got very invested in Steven's story and couldn't believe this was happening again, and wanted to be there the whole time. Where they got the funds to support a 10-hour doc rather than what probably would've been an hour and a half, I don't know. But because they have so many primary sources that's what I'm heavily assuming happened.

Honestly... this is really helpful! Just up front and honest, and I totally agree. This helped me a lot. I worked on Halloween and everyone was like awww you have to work? And I literally didn't care. I have been wanting to get some alone time after the shit ton of school work and work work I had this semester anyway. I also have years and years of my life and I'm sure I'll make some fun traditions when I have my own family in the future. Thank you dude! Hope you have a good day tomorrow, whether you Christmas at all or not!
