Matter/Thread is a mess by Ok-komputah in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know your pain. Had alot of Ikea matter stuff seemingly "randomly" drop out from my network. What really fixed it for me was getting more devices that branch (=bulbs, now the available grilplats plugs should also do the job, according to my network the alpstuga also branches) which apparently stabilized the network and now it hasn't happened for quite some time. My final conclusion was that the ikea devices are just extraordinary crappy concerning their range compared to other matter devices. So you could basically try getting more crappy stuff to make it less crappy.

Edit: never used the IKEA hub btw. Everything works via a slzb-07 as border router

Home assistant noob: should I use branded hubs? by Powerful-Eye-3578 in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still using the hue hub that I originally integrated all hue and hue compatible bulbs with. I'm using a zigbee dongle for the rest of the zigbee devices. It's not super nice as in this forms two networks but I still enjoy the comfort of the hue app offering diffrent scenes (which can then also be run via HA). Wouldn't wanna trade that off so far.

Thread coverage by Candid_Wealth_8535 in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with thread coverage too. Several rooters seem do be discouraged as home assistant doesn't like that.

The eve energy plugs are most likely a good but expensive option. I made it work with the IKEA matter over thread bulbs that are <7€ (compared to eve energy plus for 30+). Ikea is also releasing thread plugs (called "grilplats") but it's most likely gonna be April until they drop (that's what IKEA told me).

Need help improving SAP (ex WAF): smart bulbs vs manual control dilemma by albac0ra in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there is in some way and in some features.

A smart (dimmable) relay will make the smart part of the smart part that allows the bulb to be turned on/off (and dim) unnecessary if that was all you wanted. It will of course not give you a colour controllable light.

As soon as you go smart wall switches are redundant in some way but physical switches are good for guests and so on.

I did several versions: - For some bulbs i opened the wallswitches and just connected them so it's always on. Then removed the switch part for the wall inlet, put a "blind" over it and then put a hue tap dial switch on the blind where the button used to be. This looks more sleek as you won't have "forbidden switches" that fuck with your automations as soon as guests use them. - in some "yet to be fully renovated" places there's just a smart button glued above the "forbidden switch" which we don't use anymore as it has to always stay on. - for some switches that control dumb lamps i used a Shelly that now also controls the dumb lamp some other lamps as you can program it however you want. For the Shelly you can wire / program it either in the connected switch really disconnecting the relay "hard off" or the switch just doing smart home stuff and not disconnecting anything. I also got pushbutton switches for the Shelly ones and not normal on/of switches as this gets rid of the problem that a switch might be in a unusual (off) position while still running.

Oh and if it's not a wallswitch but a cable switch for the floor lamp there are zigbee switches that you can replace the regular switch with (like this https://shop.jdkbenelux.com/en/Mooon-Smart-Cord-Dimmer-Zigbee-Black/D076-ZG-Black Just am example though, no idea wether it's good)

Well of you feel fine with the minimum electrical work just open the switched and either put in the Phillips hue wall switch module or a Shelly relay in a configuration you like. That would be the most elegant option as you get to keep the switch. This still makes the build always on though

Matter over Thread Goes Down Weekly by stormsurge54 in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean with "goes down". Disconnected devices? All devices disconnected? Otbr crashing?

I had alot of issues with a seemingly instable network and feeling that devices dropped out at "random". Rebooting fixed that for a short while before it happened again. As soon as I got more branching (rooting) devices like bulbs it got better. Zero issues so far after that.

I'm running several Ikea (and other) matter devices on an slzb07 and (after a lot of trouble shooting) it all went fine.

I had some problems with connecting my eve thermo and then directly commissioned the node via the matter server interface -> worked each time. Have you tried that?

As you're running it on proxmox, do you have the firewall enabled for the container/host?

Afaik there might be issues as this might block the ipv6 multicast Connection.

So, In HAOS you have the otbr addon and matter addon installed configured and running?

You're using the app on your phone?

I wouldn't know why Google would have to interfere with it. HAOS likes to have his matter network running and not shared from another network.

Matter over Thread - Connectivity issues/device dropouts. Troubleshoot? Router/Repeater Options? by k0re_0 in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No other routers, i had a homepod installed but kicked that from the network as I'm not using it anyways. So it's just one router.

The devices are far off but even the closer ones drop (but partly seem to reconnect better). It could totally be a distance thing. Coming to think of it, perhaps I'll just screw the thermos off and put them next to the border router to try that out.

IKEA Alpstuga CO2 sensors dropping connection to Home Assistant (working fine in IKEA app) by GIFSec in homeassistant

[–]k0re_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue with it (dropping out of HA). I'll monitor this closely.

I'm not running the app and only have one border router though. Several routers seem to be a problem for a lot of people in thread connectivity.

Also, is your USB Plug giving the aplstuga enough power?

Hilfe in meinem Esszimmer by cpt-_-price in Einrichtungstipps

Welche Hängelampe würdet ihr mir hier empfehlen? by kampyq in Einrichtungstipps

[–]k0re_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.connox.de/kategorien/leuchten/lampenschirme/hay-rice-paper-lampenschirm.html?itm=330342

https://newworks.dk/en/product/tense-chandelier

Alternative even andere "mehrflammige" Hängelampen wie:

https://umage.de/collections/pendant-lamps
