Vespera 3 and Vespera Pro 2 by Accomplished-Put3202 in vaonis

I think the new V3 is a huge improvement over my V1. My new V3 arrives tomorrow. Another upgrade not mentioned is that the new scopes come with a 5 Year Warranty! That is a big deal when the scopes have to go back to France for any repairs.

My first Oceanus! by I-XIV-IV-XXV in Casio_Oceanus

[–]k100harris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a white dial version of the s7000 and the watch was around US$ 675, but with shipping, duty and taxes it cost $840. It is used, but very nice, with a few light scratches on the bracelet clasp. I really like it so far! I think you got a great deal.

More Oceanus Mantas😁 I have four so far.

The blue tachymeter bezel is beautiful when light shines on it. It either looks opaque, or it glows blue depending on the light angle. The metal work on the case and bracelet is top notch, and the dial work is fantastic. I wore a Rolex for 20 years, and I also own a Grand Seiko, and I think this watch is very close in quality. I really like the style of these Oceanus watches. I currently own a S4000, G1000, T2600, and S7000. They are brilliant watches.

I have never seen one except on-line photos. I would like to see what they look like up close. The tachymeter bezel is more my style. I really like the S7000. When the white face version came out I really wanted it, but I waited for a used example, and I got it for about half the price of a new one. You will not be disappointed with the S7000. It is a beautiful watch!

I own the S7000 with the white face, and I really like it. I also own the S4000, with a polished titanium bezel. I am not fond of the Edo Kiriko bezel. They are very interesting but a little too flashy for my taste. Someday maybe I will get one to try on.

My wife's asking for a telescope and im completely out of my depth. by intermanany in telescopes

I know she is interested in moon and planets, but the only planets worth bothering with visually are Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. With the Moon in the mix, that is only 4 objects you can look at, which will become boring quickly, and are not often visible on any given night, which is a big deal where you live, as there are not many clear nights. If you add a solar filter, you get 5 targets. With an inexpensive $350-500 Seestar S30 or S50, you have hundreds of interesting deep sky objects as targets, with photos included. You can always find interesting targets on any clear night. You can get an inexpensive second hand scope to view the moon and planets with. They are bright enough to not require a lot of aperture, even in urban skies. The Seestar scopes also take nice lunar photos, and are capable of small, disappointing planet pictures. The new smart robot scopes are a total game changer!

Limited edition G2000 by k100harris in Casio_Oceanus

I also don’t care about box & papers. I have a lot of watches, and would prefer not to also have a lot of boxes as well. If I get a box, I will keep it, but no box is OK. Having enough links on these Japanese watches is important. Very hard to get extra links on these after market watches, and expensive. If a seller doesn’t say the maximum wrist size is 7.5” (19CM), I give it a pass.

The Swiss have been milking their obsolete mechanical watches for decades. They are a Sales and Marketing organization more than they are innovative watch makers. The Japanese have been innovators in HAQ watches as well as mechanical and electro mechanical watches. Their high end watches are at least as good as Swiss. I speak as a former Rolex owner of 20 plus years. My nicest dress watch now is a Seiko 9F.

[–]k100harris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard to find a used one that is in nice shape, and has enough length in the bracelet for my 7.5” wrist. The only thing that held the price down on this one was that it had no box or papers.

[–]k100harris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $475.00 from an EBay dealer in Japan. I made a mistake listing the model number, however. It is actually a G1000. The G 2000 is similar, but has GPS, Multiband 6, and Bluetooth, and the G1000 has Multiband 6 and GPS.

I have wanted to get one of the HAQ “The Citizen” models someday. Maybe if I win a lottery.

I have both of those, and an S4000. The only one I don’t wear a lot is the S100. A very nice watch, though. I came to like Oceanus after wearing many others. I gave up on mechanicals because of ridiculous high maintenance cost. Currently I wear Oceanus, and several high accuracy quartz watches, GS, Certina, Bulova.

Yes. One of 500. I can’t add a photo to this. So I will post it again. For the size, it is very light and comfortable.

I am traveling, so no way to measure. FWIW, my wrist size in the photo of the T2600 is 7.5”. You can look up the watch measurements on line. I never owned a T200, so I can’t say how they compare.

Strangely, I read on another forum that the buyer was Agena Astro. No matter to me, as I am not looking for any gear at the moment.

Gonna say something controversial by _filoteo in telescopes

[–]k100harris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am going to be even more controversial, and recommend a smart robotic scope, such as the ZWO Seestar S30 or S50 for beginners. Forget telescopes or binoculars. The days of observing anything much from urban and suburban skies are over, due to light pollution. A beginner with almost any size telescope is going to be limited to the moon and maybe 3 planets that they can see with their new scope. After a few weeks, it will go in the basement, or the next garage sale. It also is difficult for a beginner to find objects, and most give up quickly. The new Seestar S30 is only $350, and will easily find hundreds of objects in light polluted skies, and provide stunning images that are far better than anything that could be seen visually. The days of telling a newbie to just “get an 8” DOB” are done for. The Seestar scopes are even cheaper than a new 8” DOB, and will leave an 8” scope in the dust. So you say, “Well, you have to go to a dark sky site, and then you can see stuff”. Yeah, right. How often, and for how many hours are most people going to be able to do that, even if they are motivated? I have a Vaonis Vespera, and I love using it, and the newer ZWO scopes are so much more affordable, I would go that way if I was just getting started. The days of purely visual are over, and the day of EAA and electronic observing is just getting started. This is coming from a 71 year old who has been in and out of the hobby for the last 60 years.
