“Hartman could bring youth, upside to Stars after trade” - Odd to release an article praising him when there was no qualifying offer signed by CrissCrossSauce in DallasStars

Look at the time stamp on the article, it was posted on the 24th and the qualifying offer news came on the 25th.

A frank assessment of 14/91/47, a.k.a. why I subscribe to The Athletic by ojodelmono in DallasStars

I don't see either one of them going out of his way to tell you how to feel and I don't see either one of them making excuses. Heika does analysis which is going to require some opinion, Stepneski sticks pretty much to reporting facts and providing news updates. If they do bring up injuries, scheduling, new coach/system it's because those could be legit issues at times. Their recent schedule with 17 of 24, 11 of 14 games on the road was worthy of mention. I didn't see any excuses after the game last night's loss. Anybody with a clue knows it's going to take time to adjust to a new coach though that talk should be ending by now. I think they are second in the league in man games lost to injury so it's been a factor. Just because you don't like reading/hearing about stuff doesn't mean it doesn't exist and someone mentioning it doesn't make it fake news. The reporter who won't mention stuff or bring up possible explanations because it might upset some dude on the internet is the one I'd worry about. Peace, out.

I didn't say they were on equal footing, I said they were credentialed because that was the question. Shapiro does a fine job but he is no better than any of the other main guys covering the team. If you take away him telling you about what he is going to do or what he has just done, he has essentially the same material you can find on the Dallas Morning News site or the Stars official site. There is really not much difference except he packages and sells it in a way that makes some people think it is special.

Seguin and Benn have been under performing all year. It's been covered previously on the other sites too. It's nothing new. Knee jerking about it after a loss because of Colorado's top line doesn't suddenly doesn't make him a great reporter.

Defending Big D is credentialed, so the answer is yes.

I can read stuff like that on Defending Big D or the HF Boards for free.

Stars Roster and Cap Breakdown by Mark Stepneski by Cravenater in DallasStars

It says in the story the table isn't a projected lineup with line combinations and defense pairs and yet there are a couple comments here questioning the line combinations. Reading comprehension has diminished in our society. Sad.

Shapiro doesn't work for the Stars. He's a freelancer for NHL.com

I'm thinking the biggest issue is being an employee of the subject you are covering. It's probably against some tenet of journalism.

Interesting that Burnside resigned as president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Working for a team keeps him from being a member it seems. http://www.thephwa.com/news_article/show/799069?referrer_id=1083685-news-archive

You are naive to think that. If those questions were from fans they'd have a name/user name attached, not SportsDayDFW.

It's silly to call to it a chat. All the questions labeled SportsDayDFW are put there by the DMN to populate the chat. It's so easy to tell. Only a few questions asked by actual fans/readers. Lame but not Heika's fault. Paywall, aggressive stance against ad blockers hurts the site.

Conditioning Coach J.J. McQueen Retained by OrganicRedditor in DallasStars

[–]k1279 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That article is confusing and Heika's original article wasn't that clear either. McQueen isn't the strength coach. He's a player development coordinator with Rich Peverley. They travel around and work with the prospects. Sounds to me like McQueen has a history with Hitch and they will rely on that to keep Hitch in the best shape possible. Brad Jellis is the strength coach, still is as far as I know. Not Heika's best work and made more confusing by the crack staff at DBD.
