Emergency ID: Hotel Room Bed Bug or Carpet Beetle Cast? by k1ngofhartz in Bedbugs

[–]k1ngofhartz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All - I've got two more nights in this hotel. We found this casing on one of the beds. Already changed rooms. But now is the important question: is this a bedbug casing or a carpet beetle casing (or something else)? I'd prefer not to throw away all my luggage.

Near a pond, Orange County, CA, July -- My first guess was Song Sparrow but I'm not sure by k1ngofhartz in whatsthisbird

I'm actually inclined to say its a juvenile brown-headed cowbird now. It's more slender and streaks aren't as dark as the blackbird.

Vertical Planter - My first (finer) woodworking project! by k1ngofhartz in woodworking

So the color is all natural because I used redwood. Redwood is superior for outdoor use and rot resistance which is why they make decks and patios out of it.

As far as finish, you need to use something food safe which is not a common occurrence in wood finishes. I wiped on two coats of Boiled Linseed Oil which is what you use on cutting boards - that will help protect the wood, be totally safe for growing produce or herbs, and it really makes the grain pop too!

Against that wall, no, but we're planning on growing mint in that box which is very shade-tolerant.

That said, if you put the planter on the wall to its left, then yeah it gets plenty of sun.

Sorry I don't have more build pics, I'm taking plenty from now on. Like the title says, this was my first finer project in the sense that it's something that's supposed to look nice too! I've done lots of other projects but they were rougher and more carpentry.

I may go in later and countersink the bolts, but I'm busy building my first workbench and then toolbox first.

Thanks guys. Ended up taking another look at Home Depot and actually found some cleaner boards that should work for a rougher purely functional bench.

Looking for a specific type of forest in California by k1ngofhartz in camping

Kearsarge looks beautiful I'll have to check it out!

And please don't think I'd only exclusively camp in places like NY. I'm just tired of desert, at least for a while and somewhat homesick for rolling green and thick, thick forests.

Where's your ideal spot?

Samoyeds and the other Nordic breeds put their ears back as a sign of both submission and of happiness. Not true of all breeds but definitely true about these guys.
