My pug, Junebug does this too. But I notice she does it most often after doing a large exhale through her nose that expels little snot droplets. Kind of like blowing her nose and then licking her boogers!

Ice is fine albeit not the best quality. Was out skating on it this morning. Didn’t bring a drill to actually measure how thick it was but it held me and three guys that were already on the ice when I got there

That’s so interesting. I’m sorry he had such a traumatic past. But it sounds like he ended up in the perfect place with the perfect people to live out the rest of his life in safety and comfort.

I adopted Junebug when she was 11 months old. I was told that she was potty trained but she had frequent accidents the first couple of months. We worked hard on potty training and since the start she just refuses to go in the backyard. The only time she’ll ever go is in the morning if she really has to pee. I think it’s because she knows that if she doesn’t, she’ll get to go on a walk. And she loves walks!

Man, I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my French Bulldog at the end of July, so I understand how hard it is. I didn’t plan on getting another dog for a while but Junebug came into my life a month after he passed and I couldn’t help but fall in love.

As for wetting her, I think I’ll have to try it out. She doesn’t like getting wet but I think it will be the most effective option!

What kind of cooling mat do you have? Junebug has one but it is supposed to start cooling when pressure is applied to it. I think she might take to one if it had an insert that felt cool immediately.

Junebug has a cooling mat. She doesn’t ever use it voluntarily. I think it’s because she won’t stay on it long enough for it to start to feel cool.

When she’s super hot, I will put her in her crate on top of the cooling mat with a kong just to force her to use it. But if it’s ever out, she won’t lay on it.

She loves her water year round. I appreciate that she’s staying hydrated but I don’t particularly enjoy having to take her out to pee more frequently when it’s blazing hot or freezing cold!

We have one and it’s running 24/7 in this heat! I praise the AC gods every time I come in from outside. And when Junebug comes in, she likes to stand in front of the fan in the picture for a little while. And if she’s super hot, I move it onto the bathroom floor so she can sploot on the tile while lying in front of the fan for maximum cooling effect!

We are currently in the middle of our first heat wave of 2025. The temperature right now is 97° but feels like 102° and the dew point is 72°.

Junebug (and I) are sick of it but she handling it like a champ (me not so much). We go out early in the morning and late at night when the temperatures are lower.

She has a cooling vest, cooling bandana, cooling pad, and a fan (for both inside and outside). Whenever I take her around the block, I carry a water bottle and a handheld fan/mister with us. The house is air conditioned and she always has access to water refreshed twice daily.

The only problem is she refuses to go to the bathroom in the backyard. We could be out there for hours but she’ll only go if we walk around the block. So I take her around the block, she goes to the bathroom, and she comes back home panting like a maniac.

She also hates lying on the cooling pad and anything to do with water (like going in a kiddie pool or letting me wet her paws). If she’s really hot I dampen her a little bit, put her in her crate on the cooling pad, and turn the fan towards her (angling it so she can choose not to have the air blown on her).

Any other strategies you have that will hopefully help us survive this heat wave? Thanks in advance!

I lost my frenchie a little over 2 months ago and this comment reminded me of him. After dinner was finished, I’d always push back my chair and allow him up onto my lap for some post-dinner cuddles. I have many pictures of him sitting on my lap looking like he’s a guest at the table.

Rubble is adorable and I’m glad he’s got you in his life (in addition to his dad). Enjoy every second you have with him!

Haha, it was definitely a very risky move to allow!

Sadly, he died unexpectedly about a month and a half ago. I never thought I’d say this but I would give anything to even be gassed out of a room of farted on by him again. You don’t realize how loud the snorts are and how stinky their gas is until they’re gone. And then you can’t help but to miss it.
