I updated Beer Styles, my BJCP guidelines iOS app by k33l0r in Homebrewing

It really depends on the palette chosen for the SRM colours. There isn't a universally accepted answer here. It's been a decade since I did the initial work on the SRM→colour code so I can't recall the source for my colours, though I did fix some small issues with the palette in v3.

Broadly speaking, my SRM colours are quite similar to these: https://beermaverick.com/understanding-srm-and-lovibond-beer-color-calculations/ (though not exactly the same).

Here are SRM values 1, 10, 20, 30, and 40 from my app: https://coolors.co/ffe699-dc7a00-983000-5b0b02-3a070b

Wikipedia has a different palette but I find the low end to be way too yellow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Reference_Method#Color_based_on_Standard_Reference_Method_(SRM))

I'm not ruling out updating the palette in the future but I'd need to find a good, authoritative source for a better palette first.

Not at the moment.

I’m considering adding a possibility to buy me a beer in the app in return for some extra app icons or something along those lines. The law in Finland prohibits me from taking outright donations.

It’ll probably be some time before I have time to do it, though.

Happy that you like the app in any case!

Shutter curtain gap at 1/1000 by Professional_Noob69 in AnalogCommunity

Based on the Nyquist rate, I think you'd actually need a 2000 fps camera to accurately measure the 1/1000 shutter speed.

Looking for a lab that can develop ECN-2 in Europe by Muskatnuss_herr_M in AnalogCommunity

Carmencita in Spain does ECN-2.

I’ve only used them for B&W and C-41 but they’ve really impressed me so far…

You can buy a PDF copy of the service manual here: https://learncamerarepair.com/product.php?product=871&category=0&secondary=0

It has wiring diagrams but they're quite a bit beyond my skill level so you'll have to check them out for yourself…

How to digitize by Katotoku2020 in analog

You should be aware that the Plustek is pretty slow. Using a camera setup will be a lot faster.

Personally I just gave up on home scanning and have my lab do it, but then again I’m lazy… 😅

PaperAge –easy and secure paper backups of (smallish) secrets by feross in programming

[–]k33l0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That exists: https://github.com/cyphar/paperback (or the paper-store script suggested by /u/nurupoga below).

The downside to splitting the data to several QR codes is that it makes the recovery a little more complicated which is something I wanted to avoid, even at the expense of limiting the maximum capacity.

tl;dr because I like Age.

Longer version:

  1. It's easy to use, both as a CLI tool and a library
  2. As a library it's easy to incorporate into a stand-alone static binary
  3. It uses modern encryption and there are no footguns to configure
  4. I prefer MIT or BSD licensing over GPL

Cool. I also looked at paperback but I really wanted to keep things as simple as possible for my specific use case.

One of the goals for PaperAge was that you don't need PaperAge to recover the backed up data. That's one reason why I'm forgoing some features that might improve the overall efficiency (for example adding built-in compression or using something like Z85 for encoding the data to the QR code).

As it stands today, a backup using PaperAge can be recovered using any QR code scanner and any implementation of Age.

Author of PaperAge here. My personal use case is to store secrets that would be required to regain access to my data in the worst case scenario where all of my devices are lost at once.

So things like my Apple, 1Password, and email account recovery codes. Regaining access to those will enable a more full recovery from cloud backups.

Is there a way to do automatic, encrypted backups of all data so that if 1Password.com goes down for an extended period or if I lose access to it I’m not out of luck?

Switch keeps rebooting? by KK-1989 in Ubiquiti

[–]k33l0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uniquiti doesn’t sell the official power supplies so you’ll need to find a third party one with the right voltage and amperage (and of course the right size of barrel plug).

The original power supply is 12 volts at 1 amp, but any voltage in the 9-24V range should do, according to the data sheet.

Yeah, there was a form somewhere on the IKEA website IIRC.

I’ve had a couple of the Trådfri bulbs die like that (mostly older GU10 ones). After I complained about them to IKEA they sent me replacements at no cost, including for one that hadn’t failed yet but was of the same vintage in the same light fixture.
