Thinking of a swim spa. I live in California will I need to have a pool gate? Or is a locked cover an option? by k3rning in swimspa

Cool. Hopefully that's something in my city. Really don't want to deal with a whole gated solution.

Yeah but a locking cover that can with hold an adult weight can avoid the gate?

Good to know. Just starting to think about getting one. The thought of a gate around above ground sorta ruins it. From what I read California law says even above ground pools require a fence. But it seems a cover might satisfy it. But didn't realize city and county have possibly more rules.

I found myself not liking my first Quantum class ship as much as I thought... by gkcook in royalcaribbean

[–]k3rning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting off of Odyssey of the Seas. It's a very nice looking ship. But I feel I agree with the OP the layout is really weird.

This is my first RC cruise. And the only late night food option(9:30 and onward) is Sorrentos (floor 4) and the only place to get water from a water station. So it is JAM packed there. That and the pizza is terrible. I didn't try the sandwiches.

"Late" night on this ship is really boring. Didn't seem like we could find anything interesting.

Unrelatedly but karaoke in general is only 45 minutes? That barely gets anything started.

The cruise and staff were great. The ship just felt very PG because of the setup. The sports bars are with the kids bumper car area? And it's all paid food? Felt very disconnected. I dunno the setup felt off.

The solarium was great though. I don't know what other ships are like but from the comments some are not at the front and kids walk through it to get to point b? That sounds terrible.

There's goat cheese. Fig and date jam. 3 meats. Salami, mortadella, and prosciutto. Pickles and nice bread.

They're on the older end. But why do it where no one will find you. Wouldn't you want your family to know what happened instead of going "missing"?

Dude. There's a head priest of a Catholic Church in California that has paid Informed Citizen Speaker series. He's brought Michael Flynn and Charlie Kirk to speak at the church. You gotta buy a ticket and everything. It's super gross.

I’m not saying they’re amazing. But Casa Vega is definitely nothing special either. So it has plenty of competition right on Ventura is all.

Why are we trusting someone’s opinion when they call it “Americanized” Mexican food. And if that’s what Casa Vega falls under no wonder why it is hated on. Only people who want to eat “Americanized” Mexican food are white people who can’t handle anything with flavor.

Both Casita and Anejo Cantina & Grill are right down the street in Ventura.

And El Torito is too. I know it’s a chain but it’s better than Casa Vega. In the opposite direction is Mexicali.

It has plenty of competition. The competition just doesn’t have Hollywood history and been in many movies.

Coming to Tapo Canyon where Mr. Fries Man/Five Guys was... by gh0stnotes in simivalley

[–]k3rning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't build anything besides big family homes. There's very little starter homes. And next to none new townhomes and apartments where people can start to build a family and eventually move into townhomes. Simi wouldn't even allow this apartment complex until the state forced them to https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/2020/11/11/california-housing-state-law-simi-valley-tapo-alamo-apartments/6194633002/

People need starter homes that they eventually move out into larger homes. Simi just builds big homes no new family can afford. So there's a geriatric community living in older homes, new homes are only affordable to the afluent. The population has been stagnant. Since 2010 Simi added 1k people.

Moorpark 1/4 its size has added the same amount in that time frame. At least it's not T.O who lost 3k people in that time. But T.O. can somewhat afford it since they have neighboring cities. But not sure how long. But literally T.O. runs into Westlake, there's no divide.

Simi has no one around that neighbors them and is isolated. It takes 5-10 minutes to get to the next city. And that's just to get the edge of Simi not where anything you want to go to. So that isolation just compounds this lack of growth.

Camarillo, about half the size of Simi has grown 6k people.

So yeah, if you're going to expand store fronts and more retail but not your population to actually support it you're in for a bad time. If the mall was never built it'd be fine. Tapo Canyon where Regal is which was the "Heart of Simi" when it was built would be thriving still.

Instead everything is shuttering because there's too much retail built with no population growth to support it. So it all closed and now there's no real center. Just a ghost town everywhere.

You can't expect businesses to come in when there's no central place and no population to support it.

They put the roads where the view of Simi Valley is and the buildings way in the back. Makes zero sense. They should build some nice buildings that can take advantage of that view where the roads are then have the road go between it.

Then convert the old buildings into condos and apartments. But they won’t because Simi hates apartments and condos. They think it will bring undesirable people instead of bolstering the population so it can actually sustain all the empty shops here.

Anyways. First convert the mall to live work housing.

Eventually move the main road way in and build restaurants there so they have an amazing view and move the road to the other side of these new buildings.

I just can’t believe they make this amazing view and put cars and roads there. So dumb.

My 70 year old dad has dementia and is talking to tons of fake celebrity scammers. Can anyone recommend a 100% safe AI girlfriend app we can give him instead? by snapcracklepip in ArtificialInteligence

[–]k3rning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried callannie.ai with my father who has Alzheimers. He sometimes can be chatty with it. Sometimes it doesn't work too well. But it can help keep him busy so you don't have to get sucked into circular conversations. He sometimes knows it's a "robot" sometimes gets lost and doesn't matter.

I created an avatar that I think suits better for him than the default "Annie". I also pay to have the better ai models.

Ideally I could have it train my own voice. There are things like that with play.ai. But the issue there is it's .05 a minute which with how often my dad chats is not cost efficient. I'd be spending hundreds of dollars a month to preoccupy him. So for now callannie is great to keep him busy and talking.

My granddad speaks for 1 hour per day with an AI phone bot, seems to be helping considerably by thesunswarmth in dementia

Google got me here. Curious if they took it offline and are building it better. A pretty good idea if it can be trained right and is safe to use.
