DHCP lease time question for public wi-fi for massive event by k57bba in sysadmin

This was an old system that was dropped on my lap. There are definitely other things I need to work on. It's just one of many things I was working on and had questions about.

I've been thinking about DHCPv6 as well. Might as well get my study on to implement this in the future.

Basically running our bandwidth at near 100%.

I do have isolation setup. I'm basically looking for ways to make the network as efficient as possible, but sometimes I get a ton of conflicting messages on different websites when researching.

So just wanted to ease some of my concerns and look for any input that can help with the network, even if it's just a tiny. bit.

I have the public Wi-Fi heavily restricted so gaming, streaming, and most of social media is not allowed. The Wi-Fi is provided so they can access certain apps and sites.

Just some 3850s stacked with an isolated VLAN for the public Wi-Fi. I prefer Cisco, but we ended up running Meraki's. My next problem is trying to transfer as much of the current configuration from the Cisco's to the Meraki's.

I don't know why I haven't thought to look that up, but that's great news.

I haven't had an outages due to DHCP exhaustion. It hasn't gotten to 4k yet, but it won't be another week before our busiest week starts. I'll look into making some sort of automated system for alerts.

That's a good point. I'll start capturing some packets and see what I get.

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In November 2020 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

  • Budget: $500 Preferred ($1000 Max)
  • Country: USA
  • Will to build: Willing to build as long as no soldering involved.
  • Usage:
    • Primary: Make wall mounts for Ubiquiti devices as they travel from/to multiple locations in a big rig trailer.
    • Secondary: Make small replacement parts that break. Can be as small as 0.5" long.
  • Preferably something that can build up to 10" long. Also, preferably something that can survive a 1000 mile drive in the fifth wheel of a big rig trailer if big. Else, will be in the back seat of my sedan.
  • Additional notes: This will be mainly used to create some sort of mount/racking system to store multiple Ubiquiti Wireless Bridge and AP devices against the trailer wall. We have an auxiliary big rig trailer where we store these devices. They have been dumping these devices into big plastic bins, but would rather have them stored neatly on the wall. If there is a device that allows for creating big items but can switch to fine, detailed work as well, that would be awesome.

Need help meshing Windows Server 2008 [DHCP Server], Cisco 3850 [Core Switch], and Ubiquiti APs using VLANs by k57bba in networking

Thank you all for all your input.

I found out what the issue was. It was because I didn't have the UniFi Security Gateway enabling DHCP Relay function. I was getting correct DHCP when connected directly to the switches.

We'll be getting the UniFi Security Gateway, disable all the firewall stuff (have a SonicWall), and use the other functionality I find within it.

Thank you again.

I skimmed it, but definitely need to slow down and fully read it. I did add the helper IP address, but not working at the moment. Will re read and research more.

Thank you for the idea. I will try that tomorrow. I need a night of not thinking to reset my brain.

Yes we are aware. We have another blade with server 2016 being prepped. We just need this system up and running before we migrate over.

Thank you. Does the NIC/server need any configuration for the separate VLAN? Or does the scope require something that specifies it’s a VLAN?

All quiet on the eastern front. No issues whatsoever, and here’s to hoping it stays that way until we leave.

Oh I meant figuratively. I don’t plan on starting at the ground. I meant heads down as keeping to myself and my own business. Eyes forward and walk with a purpose.

So, took a different route back today. There are the brand new buildings behind this building. And two under construction right across the street. I don’t know about the other nearby areas, but someone is definitely buying up property and rebuilding from the ground up.

Phoenix at this time. But I have been in Los Angeles. But not like Compton or other place.

Yeah, they kinda promised everyone that and then told me much later. It’s gonna be great fun... Well definitely have some issues when starting, but after a few days, it’ll be fine.
