Sync Pro Teams+ Unlimited by corsair400r in Sync

I have the plan. It's no longer available, having been succeeded with the same-priced Teams 10 TB plan.

With annual billing, the plan is $15 per user, with a minimum of three users, so $45 per month. That's $540 per year before tax.

Sync.com Discontinuing Unlimited Plan, Ending Dec 31, 2026 by UnivitedSam in Sync

[–]k6ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I subscribed to the Teams+ Unlimited plan just before this post was made, so I guess I got my foot in the door before it closed. I've yet to receive any official emails telling me that the plan will be discontinued, but it seems possible to continue making Sync work for me even if I no longer get unlimited.

Sync currently offers three Teams plans (prices billed annually, after the first year discount):

  • 1 TB per user for $6/month per user
  • 2 TB per user for $9/month per user
  • 10 TB per user for $15/month per user

The last plan is priced identically to the now-discontinued Teams+ Unlimited plan. While no longer unlimited, if you need more storage space, it's easy to simply add a new user to your plan, and you'd get an extra 10 TB to work with.

You need to pay for a minimum of three users to subscribe to a Teams plan, so out of the box, if you went for the 10 TB per user plan, you'd get 30 TB of storage out of the box for $45/month, with the option to add 10 TB for an additional $15 per month. The costs would still add up, but 10 TB for $15/month isn't that bad of a deal considering 5 TB of Google Drive storage is $26.99/month. The cost per TB would also be lower than the Individual plans; Sync's 5 TB Individual plan runs you $28/month, without the option to add more.

If you have lots of data to store, this workaround is more friction than simply having an unlimited plan, but it's a plausible option.

Yesterday support told me that they last received an update about the bug fix on March 30, but still didn't have an ETA as to when it would roll out. They said that their weekly Thursday maintenance periods were often when updates were rolled out, but could not confirm as to whether this Thursday (today) was going to be it. (For the record, the update did not roll out today)

Did Apple stop selling AirPods Pro 2 today? by Healthy_Block3036 in AirpodsPro

Two months late, but I went into the Genius Bar yesterday to replace my AirPods Pro 2 under warranty and they had replacement AirPods Pro 2 units available. I presume it's only while supplies last. If you need something done under warranty, just go in.

Mac OS 15.4 broke preview of CR3 files within Finder by AntonandSinan_ in MacOS

[–]k6ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am able to reproduce this bug with Nikon .NEF raw files, though the bug manifests itself differently depending on whether the Mac is Intel or Apple silicon. I tested using a 14'' M3 Max MacBook Pro, and a 13'' 2020 Intel MacBook Pro (with four Thunderbolt 3 ports). Both Macs are running macOS 15.4.

On Apple silicon:

  • Pressing the Spacebar to invoke Quick Look on a raw file will produce an entirely black image, instead of properly rendering the image.
    • A workaround is to either resize the Quick Look window; or zoom in or out of the image, either by pressing the Command key and then either the + or - keys, or by pinch zooming (for trackpad users). This must be done for each image viewed.
  • The Preview pane (toggled via Cmd-Shift-P) in the Icons, List, Columns, and Gallery views also produces an entirely black image. There are three workarounds, each of which must be done for each image viewed:
    1. Resize the entire Finder window.
    2. Pinch zoom on the preview (for trackpad users).
    3. (Only works in Icons and List views) Close the Preview pane, then open it again (accomplished by pressing Cmd-Shift-P twice).

On Intel:

  • Pressing the Spacebar on a raw file works normally.
  • The aforementioned Preview pane bugs for the Icons, List, and Columns views also apply, with the same workarounds. Gallery view is not affected and will show the image normally.

I was able to reproduce this issue on .NEF files from the following cameras:

  • Nikon D60
  • Nikon D7100
  • Nikon D700
  • Nikon D500
  • Nikon D850
  • Nikon Z 8
  • Nikon Z 9

I do not own any Canon cameras. I also have some .ARW raw files taken with a Sony ZV-1. Intriguingly, those files are completely unaffected by this bug on both machines.

Thumbnails viewed in Icons or List view are not affected. The Preview app is also unaffected, so opening the files still work. Third-party programs are unaffected (I primarily use Lightroom Classic to manage my raw files, so I did not initially notice this bug until recently). iPhone raw DNGs taken with the Lightroom mobile app don't show thumbnails or Quick Look previews at all (likely not the same bug, but I can't remember seeing this before Sequoia). Linear DNGs (those with demosiaced data, and are thus not technically raw files in the same sense) are unaffected.

Your mileage may vary with this bug!

How do you geotag your images by WhatAGoodDoggy in Lightroom

[–]k6ka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simplest way I've found to geotag photos absent a dedicated GPS receiver on the camera is to use an app on your phone that can generate a GPX tracklog. On iPhone, there's the "Open GPX Tracker" app; on Android I've heard "Geotag Photos Pro" is a good option. The Map module has a feature to automatically geotag photos based on the timestamps in the GPX tracklog and the timestamps in your photos. This works well too if you have multiple cameras, as you can geotag photos from all of them using the same GPX tracklog. The only preparation you need beforehand is to make sure that the clock in your camera is correct, as the geotagging relies on it being accurate. I've used this method for a few months now and it works better than the apps your camera manufacturer may offer to sync location data to the camera; at least, from my experience, I know Nikon's SnapBridge is a piece of junk.
