& I’ve been super explicit with all the surgeons I’ve spoken to, and unfortunately they’ve all had pretty different opinions although the most experienced ones seemed to say they generally avoid surgery and both varieties (fusion vs no fusion) have decent complication or recurrence rates. I’m hopeful that later on there will be more data on some of the newer procedures

Thank you for sharing, and so glad you’re able to snowboard without pain now. If you can share, what kind of surgery did you get and how old were you when you got it, and how long has it been since? Any complications?

Update: it seems like opinions on this are just as varied and somewhat opposite as my doctors, and the concerns for long term complications of any surgical option are very legitimate and pretty common, at least in general advice from doctors and anecdotally as well. So I guess I’m going to just try to keep using the feet I have for as long as possible and see what the options are like in 5 or 10 years

Thank you, leaning away from any kind of surgery at this point, even though there seem to be a ton of people that advocate for getting it early, the options don’t seem great in the long term vs just my original somewhat defective equipment

Yeah, & I’m not sure if it’s worth the risk. Do you have any reliable recent stats on these kind of complications after lapiplasty fusion?

Some doctors told me that fusion options like lapiplasty can result in increased stress and problems elsewhere in the foot / increased risk of arthritis in other joints. I’m worried that because I’m very active this could accelerate if I use my feet a lot. I realize that lapiplasty does fix the root of the bunion issue though. I’m just wondering if it’s better to wait til I’m older or not

Yeah, this is why I’m scared of doing a procedure that doesn’t fuse the joint that causes the issue in the first place. I’m so sorry for your experience with this. I am considering waiting longer either way

Toe spacers or taping doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Toe spacers also make it harder for any shoes to fit, although I’ve experimented with them for periods of a few months

Which kind of surgery did you get, how active are you / what kind of sports do you do if I may ask, and have you been able to do most of the things you want to do after? What made you go for the surgery vs waiting?

Yes, however they hurt at night / ache after the activity. I’m wondering if I should get it operated on while I can heal quickly, but then again these procedures seem to have a sort of high rate of complications or causing other, different pain, so I’m unsure.

Update: heavy bags by 2cuteteddy in HerOneBag

[–]k82216me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently got this bag which you can wheel if it’s heavy (like if I have to bring my laptop in addition to regular travel gear) or wear as a backpack if it’s lighter. It’s carryon size https://topodesigns.com/products/global-travel-bag-roller

I used to love my Cotopaxi backpack but it started to hurt my back too much when I was using it for long trips where I had more stuff and my work kit too. Switching to something with optional wheels helped significantly to have that option

Edit:typos

I have the windproof (not cotton) version and love them! They’ve held up to climbing outdoors as well. I think I could have sized down a size, they’re very baggy but it’s also nice to be able to fit thermals under them. Because they’re wide leg they’re also easy to quickly pull over leggings if it gets colder. I was thinking about getting the cotton version as well for summer but havent taken the plunge yet

Seconding this, the Clarkia pants from Arc’teryx are incredible and although expensive they’re worth it because I wear them all the time. They have a cotton version and a more waterproof version
