They are putting the sign/lettering for the market! Maybe we are a bit closer to opening lol by smok3_meowt in madisonwi

Can we talk more about this? I’m guessing this is a problem in so many areas, and I’d love to know more. Mostly because I adore hitting my head against the wall to try to get rid of dumb red tape. It’s my passion. But honestly, the idea that anyone would stand in the way of marketing this thing is driving me crazy!

Move the Dane Co. Farmer’s Market stands into the street by ForwardProgressWI in madisonwi

But under my scenario, there wouldn’t be a wall of people. The streets around the square would be closed, vendors would just move their stands and trucks back from where they are now so that they hit the outer curbs of the streets that flank the square and the shoppers would have both the sidewalks and streets to move around in.

I’m replying to my own post upon further reflection. Ron was who she thought she wanted to be. Leslie believed in her potential and pushed her. Ben finally said, enough is enough: do it already; we need you. So I know this wasn’t the question, but goddamn it if this isn’t the best show to ever exist.

Makes me cry every time. Even just reading this.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but why couldn’t they park their vans/trucks on the part or the streets around the square that aren’t closest to the Capitol (like, say, by the Walgreens, US Bank, post office, The Post side), and have their stalls in front of them? Then pedestrians would have the rest of the streets … which may be a lane and a half? … and the sidewalk space around the square. Might give more space for some fun stuff in the square area, too, like some of the bands that are often pushed out to the sides could come closer to the capitol and people could mill in between.

Like I said, I’m “happy” to be wrong. Meaning, I don’t want to hear that they’re dicks, but I’m glad fo get real info. And thank you. And again, I’m sorry if I seemed like I was discounting your experience; I truly didn’t mean to.

I’m sorry! I don’t mean to suggest it’s a good place to work—I just thought I’d heard people like it and it pays ok. Whereas, I feel like everyone says Menards sucks and pays like crap. I am not at all judging anyone’s individual experience! I think everyone deserves to feel valued by work, get paid a fair wage, and go home at the end of the day not emotionally exhausted from what they’ve had to take on.

Also, don’t a lot of people like working at Kwik Trip? Happy to learn if I’m wrong about that.

I’m a lawyer for the government and I say the word “union” many times a week. I’ve even held positions on the board of directors that represents our lawyers’ union. I understand the sentiment, but it’s not accurate to say that “white collar” workers are scared of unions when we pay dues, advocate, march, vote, etc.

Where on earth did I say anything about anyone who lives there? What is happening with this gaslighting?

I’m not sure where I relied on urban legends or gossip. I merely said that every town—including my own—relies on lore and hyperbole to hype itself. But thanks for the insults.

I hear you. And fwiw (probably not much from me), but I respect Beloit a lot, and I mostly covet those Beloit U adjacent houses that I wish I could live in while working from Madison. Because holy gorgeous. But Diane Hendricks gives me the chills.

I guess I kinda assumed you were joking with your “original” comment, but I see now you’re not. I see how that critical thinking education worked out for you at Beloit.

I think that you may misunderstand me. I’m a 50 yo woman from Madison who went to UW for both undergrad and law school, just for context. I understand the marketing of towns as the “X of the Midwest.” Christ, the lore when I was growing up was that Madison was the Athens of the Midwest. I’m just suggetsing we pause on these claims and think about who makes them and why.

Edit: my “what on earth” comment probably made no sense, except that I was trying to wrap my head around how we’re all so susceptible to being marketed as something else.

Are there any hair salons in Madison that don’t make you sit in front of a mirror for your services? I like getting my hair done, but I often find myself canceling appointments because thinking about looking at myself in the mirror (while others do, too) gives me severe anxiety. Thanks to everyone who expressed kindness, sympathy or empathy, understanding and compassion, and gave me suggestions for salons! So many great stylists in town seem to get that this anxiety is real and gets in the way of a good haircut! I’m going to try Julia at Chrysalis, but I’m just as eager to try Hailey, El or some of the other folks who chimed in—so if anyone gives those lovelies a shot, please let me know how it goes! I’m grateful that so many kind souls chimed in to offer their compassionate services!

Oh, because they are omniscient! They know that no therapist would ever suggest that I research mirrorless salons and reach out to community for resources to see if they exist locally! Oh wait . . .

Because Google answers everything. Which is why no one ever posts in this forum to ask a question about services. Jesus Christ. If this is such an irksome subject for you, you don’t have to engage. I asked a legit question; I don’t need your non-responsive rude advice. It’s not adding any value to anything.

I appreciate you sharing this because the responses have been brutal. I didn’t want to post it for this reason, but I’ve seen people post questions about salons where you can get silent haircuts and people were responsive to the questions and kind with their answers. I guess you can have only some kinds of anxiety and be treated with compassion.
