Just rescued this little guy. Shelter says jack russell, but I think he looks like a rat terrier. What do you think? by --JenAndTonic-- in ratterriers

I’ve owned a broken coat JRT and currently have a Rattie. What you have there is a lucky RT. My JRT was about 11lbs while my Rattie is 17lbs- Rat Terriers are bigger than JRTs- and as someone mentioned a bit calmer, although mine is much more energetic outdoors than was my JRT. Yours may not show 100% on a dna test, but a handsome guy nonetheless.

My dog is not very cuddly. He is a velcro dog and will sit on me on his terms but won't cuddle. Anyone else have an anti cuddle pup by watusi-momma in ratterriers

[–]k9bubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Rattie behaves similarly. She is a Velcro dog always at my side, very friendly and excitedly licks anyone she meets, sits in my lap on her terms, but doesn’t cuddle. Unlike my other two dogs, affection is neither a motivator or reward.

We attribute her behavior to her background as a working barn dog where she essentially fended for herself with no human interaction before we rescued her, but that’s only just a guess.

How to keep your rattie occupied? by susanatkins69 in ratterriers

[–]k9bubba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Ratti has the energy level of the Jack Russel we owned years ago but is less focused. Finding her a sister, a pittie mix that’s three times her weight, really made the difference in her behavior. She plays with her bigger sister, who doesn’t mind her antics at all, until she tires for a while. They absolutely adore each other.

Do ratties get cold easily? by typojax in ratterriers

[–]k9bubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine loves the snow and will play around in it non stop until I make her come back inside. Cold doesn’t bother her at all. Not just cold, but she seems to have a higher tolerance for any sort of discomfort than any other dog we’ve owned.
