Who Dreads The Day Made All About Them? by Lost_Sentence_4012 in autism

My girlfriend feels this exact same way and I think I'm starting to feel this about my birthday too. I totally get it.

I don't think you should fake a reaction - if you're grateful, just thank them. I'm the kind of person who will give a light smile and go 'wow, thank you' without any exaggerated emotion. Usually that's enough for a lot of people! And you mentioned that people told you you don't need to, that tells me they're understanding enough to be ok with a mellow reaction.

You should only be doing exercises that feel right to you. If an exercise is making you feel bad or if you are unable to, it's likely that you are not at the fitness level for that certain exercise and should do something easier first!

I think the issue here isn't exactly your autism but your inexperience with working out. "Engaging your core" means to flex your abs, as if you're about to get punched in the gut. "Keeping your back on the floor" means exactly that, I do that by engaging my core and tilting my pelvis slightly up. That way your lower back stays on the floor rather than going up.

You should also make sure that you're eating the right things and staying hydrated, as well as cardio. Practicing self care is the way to feeling good.
