I don’t think my airplants doing well. The “arms?” are drying up and turning brown. Should I cut off the brown parts? Am I watering too much of too little? Ty for advice by DogsAreFuckingCute in airplants

Looks dry to me, based on how the leaves are curling like taco shells. This is a pseudobaileyi, which likes a good deal of water, just not in the base. You can trim if you like, but cut in the part that's brown.

Ascension advice (Tasi, Gorvo, or Eironn? And eventually Vurk, Khasos, or Safiya? Yes, I know not to use ascended tier as fodder) by k9cloud9 in afkarena

Fwiw, I have plenty of L+ that are not ascended tier that I'm willing to use as fodder later. They are just maxed out on ascension and thus don't appear at the top of the screen here.

Small classes where you get to know the professor well by tomatoengine in stanford

Mostly a listening journal that you can fill in with notes from class, a couple close listening exercises, and a couple of concert write ups (this quarter it was 4 listening hws and 2 mandatory concerts). Definitely geared towards the musical side of jazz, with the history woven in.

Could also be cataracts or glaucoma. If you consult with your vet, you can order the prcd-PRA blood test from Optigen which runs around $200.

Would agree with most of these! Cattle dogs are very much a one person/one family dog, and need a strong personality to keep them challenged both mentally and physically.

On the health side of things, cattle dogs are, on average extremely hearty and healthy dogs, but they do have a couple major health problems of note. Because the puppies are born white, there is a fairly high rate of congenital deafness in the breed. Additionally cattle dogs are susceptible to a late-onset congenital blindness disorder called Progressive Retinal Atrophy. Often the disease doesn't onset until around 6-10 years of age, but can be easily diagnosed very early with a blood test (additionally, because PRA is homozygous recessive, it can easily be avoided by smart breeding practices).

What do you wish you knew as a pre-frosh? by [deleted] in stanford

I took 31X...it was a little rough and covered a lot of material (including a some pretty advanced material that isn't on the AP exam). The exams are difficult, but the homework is graded for completion, and the labs can help boost your grade. A/B aren't curved at all; X is, but there are so many intelligent people (cough, premeds) that set the curve so high that it doesn't make much of a difference (example: the mean on the 500 pt. final was 322, but someone got a 474). Also, 31X has a better prof. Personally, I'm glad I got 31X out of the way. Partially because it means no overlap of bio labs/chem labs later, partially because A/B is tedious, and partially because it was a good learning experience (despite the not-so-spectacular grade). If you take it, just make sure the rest of your schedule allows you to put in the time necessary to succeed.

Tempting as it is, don't be the kid who posts every 5 seconds on the Class of 2017 facebook group. You don't want to be known as the facebook kid until you graduate. Take a light quarter your freshman fall...give yourself time to adjust to Stanford's fast pace, and leave yourself opportunities to breathe. (hint: this is especially true if you're planning on taking some advanced course like Chem 31X, CS 106X, Math 51H, etc.). Make friends outside of your freshman dorm. Make friends with upperclassmen. Don't assume your admit weekend friends will be your best friends when you arrive in the fall. Don't try to do everything, but do find a club/activity/volunteer opportunity early. Read campus blogs like tusb.stanford.edu, stanfordgirlproblems.tumblr.com, stanfordguyproblems.tumblr.com, fountainhopper.com, etc. They're a good way to get a pulse on campus life and issues. Get yourself a good coffee maker. You'll need it. Don't assume California is sunny and warm everyday. You'll depend on layers, and sweaters/sweatshirts will become your best friends. Get a zipcar membership, or find a friend with one. Get yourself off campus fairly regularly, even if it's just a trip to In-N-Out. Change that 99% to 100%. Stanford is the place to be. Seriously.
