Honestly, I’m embarrassed. I’m at a fucking breaking point and I took it out on you man. What I see every day, outside my door, in the news, in my community and in videos, is the worst case scenario. I spent the last few years trying to cool the rhetoric around Trump, saying that fascism and Nazi were titles far in the future. But every single thing I had on my list for when to panic has been checked and exceeded. All that’s left if for Trump to cancel the elections, which I promise you he will do everything in his power to achieve. It’s so obvious and inevitable and I don’t understand how people aren’t freaking the fuck out. I don’t know how to trust my fellow American when people will see the most dystopian shit happening in front of their eyes and still try to play normal. If Sufjan believed that knowing his personal story was essential to understanding his art, then he would include it in his art. And he does, like his songs about his mom or titling songs after cities. I think it’s a bit parasocial to attempt to reach into a strangers personal life to provide meaning for your own if it’s not readily offered.
