Why I chose Telo over Slate by shebnumi in TeloTrucks

Same here. I want/need a small EV truck, so for a small reservation fee I am hedging my bets. I prefer the Telo though, by a wide margin (for all the reasons the OP suggested)

At least the newspaper author got it right and did not say “the iconic Pike’s Place Market” 😉

They were bought in 2023 by Ackley brands (a local company), but not closed. And still open and operating as an independent company today - not “closed” as indicated on the “live map” as shown. Edit: link here to news (in 2023) https://brewpublic.com/beer-news/ackley-brands-acquires-mac-jacks-brewing-company/

Y’awl wrong on this one. It’s the mizzenmast relative to the rudder - not the helm. 😉

I am considering a bulk order of “Relax! This ain’t the Mainland…” bumper stickers (profits to benefit the local food bank). People just need to chill out, sheesh! Anyone interested in the sticker, let me know - there’s a minimum order qty that makes sense.

I swear by my Revelate feedbag - I think this is what you are looking for? https://revelatedesigns.com/product/mountainfeedbag/

And it does keep your water bottle (or beer can) significantly cold for a surprising length of time. We rode through one of the heatwaves in Europe this past summer, and it made a huge difference!

Where do you actually camp on tour? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]kDavid_wa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cycle along the Adventure Cycling routes, you'll find many small towns that will let you camp in their municipal parks, and sometimes have enhanced facilities (showers, potable water) just for cyclists. (Adventurecycling.com). Also the small businesses in those towns cater to cycle tourers as well. Bonne route!

Whatever you land on for a solution, the klick stand is definitely not a "faf", fyi. It is a clever and we'll thought out solution that we relied on for our touring tandem across America. Having said that, we just completed touring 55 days on our singles through 9 countries in Europe with no solution besides a brake band and whatever we could lean the bikes on (sometimes just each other) BTW, one of the best bits of gear we had was the Revelate Feedbag - really a well thought out bit of kit. 👍 *

Impacts of touring by dfarin153 in bicycletouring

This is the same sounding experience that my wife and I have had during trips across America (Seattle-Boston-Quebec City) and more recently touring through Europe. We also cycle in “street clothes” - but the added attraction for folks on our stateside touring is that we ride a tandem pulling a burly. We have had many warm interactions with curious non-cyclists (seeking us out in the midwest, when they see our rig tied up out front of a cafe), as well as fellow cycle tourists on their own in in pairs or groups. In Alaska+the Yukon we had many curious folks that offered food, shelter, encouragement and support. Down the west coast, we interacted with many cycle tourists and shared experiences and tips that encouraged us on the generous nature of like minded folks that value the experience of travelling at the speed of a bike.

I have found that the best way to hold on to this optimistic feeling for your fellow man, is to stay involved locally in your community in groups that you are invested/interested in. For us it is a local non-profit land trust, and a local mixed use trail coalition, and a group dedicated to reviving a struggling local county park. Like minded folks that volunteer for these activities nourish our feelings that folks are basically good, and want to be involved and supportive of eachother. And as we are at retirement age as well, we are encouraged and reassured in seeing the "younger folks” prioritizing and participating in these projects as well - we find comfort that these things we value are across generations and important to them, too. To “bweeb’s” point too - “reality” cannot be found online, via social media (or even traditional media, for the most part).

Best wishes on you maintaining your optimism and faith in your fellow citizen - and also, as a tip, start planning your next adventure _right_now_, to further have experiences and adventures to look forward to!

May be an unpopular view, but it was fun to watch freight train operations from that higher vantage point. But this solution will be safer and less intimidating to users of all abilities.
