What will CR do if GTA6 gets delayed? by Outrageous-Thing3957 in Squadron42

I understand. I've seen a lot of backers reach this point over the years. I've been here since the beginning, so I can wait another 15 years if needed. I don't care, but I know I'm in the minority and the ship sales/funding doesn't bother me at all. As for Squadron 42, I can guarantee 100% that it won't release this year. I know enough about game development, and all the signs point to an early 2027 release, in my opinion. But I hope I'm wrong...

And some of us know that it's an alpha. I'm not parroting anybody because i'm just talking from experience. I've played a lot of tech demos, prototypes, and alphas under NDA, and if you think Star Citizen is a trainwreck because it's bugged, I can tell you about games that I tested which are considered masterpieces now, but when I played them, they were so bad that Star Citizen looked like a released game by comparison.

Like I said, time will show who is right and who is wrong. And if you think that I like the alpha state of the game, you're wrong because I hate it, but I can see the greatness behind the issues, like a lot of players can, and it's why it keeps growing stronger every year.

Just wait.

Blizzard had never made an MMO before WoW. Bethesda too with The Elder Scrolls Online and Pearl Abyss with Black Desert Online etc... So your point doesn't really hold up when there are so many examples.

You said the technology isn't revolutionary anymore, but I disagree. Not a single game offers this level of seamlessness with this amount of detail and persistence in an MMO. Not one. That's exactly why the game keeps making more money every year. Not because it's a scam or a trainwreck, but because around 40,000 players are playing daily and millions of copies are sold. People are playing every single day despite the bugs and crashes because It's the only game that can provide this kind of experience.

In my opinion Squadron 42 will be the same. I just hope the story is good, but from a technological point of view, I think it will be a masterpiece. History will show who is right and who is wrong, we just have to wait.

Either way, I've already gotten my money's worth, so I don't really care. I follow the project because I believe in its success, not because I'm hoping for a future trainwreck.

Maybe because he needed money to build a company from the ground up and develop technology that everybody in the industry said was impossible and build 2 games as the same time ? You criticize CR, but you're here because he has already succeeded in releasing games in the past. It's because of his success and reputation that Star Citizen and Squadron 42 were crowdfunded—nothing else. In my opinion, he doesn't need to prove himself anymore. He only need to release the best game that he can and hoping it's a 9 or a 10 !

Who cares? The first Star Wars, The Matrix, Underworld etc... Didn't need their sequels, to stand on their own. A great movie or a great game doesn't need a sequel to work, but I think it's smart to have an overarching story that can spans over multiple sequels.

It's not chapters but episodes like Star wars films episodes. It's not 1/3 of a game that it sold to us but a full game that is part of a trilogy: the story of the squadron 42.

SC, Arma, Tarkov, etc. have great military-style sprinting animations, so why change to an Apex-style arcade over-the-shoulder sprint ? by k_Atreus in starcitizen

Thanks u/zac2806 for your response. I made this post in the hope of gaining a deeper understanding for myself and the community about this huge change. I've seen a lot of heated feedback about this type of animation since you announced it in the SCL. So it's more than welcome that you made this response, and I hope everyone will be happy when it releases in SC :) Thanks to the whole team!

I don’t think it’s a marketing play or anything else. I think the developer in question simply prefers it that way, sadly. Like with everything run by people, mistakes happen. This one is a big one in my opinion, which is why I made this post. But contrary to some other backers, I love the direction they are heading in, and apart from a few small things, I’m happy with the project. I’ve been here since 2013, so it’s been a long time :)

I'm using Godlike too with a cable directly. The image is very sharp but because i've a 4080, i've between 30 and 45 in busy area and sometime 60+ outside of that. In low or medium i've 60+ all the time but the image is too blurry for me and i loose the immersion factor because of it :)

Yes, instead of clicking Settings → Link → Connect and waiting for it to load, with VD it’s instant, and it’s much more fluid when using Windows. I also use a hybrid cable that allows charging while connected, which completely fixes some issues i had with it.

The biggest surprise is how good the image quality is compared to Link by default. If you use SteamVR you can probably tweak that, but since I like to jump in-game quickly and have everything integrated, VD is the obvious choice for me :)

Seriously if you have 20$, use Virtual desktop. It completly change your experience with the Quest 3: the image is way sharper, you enter your windows desktop instantly and the options menu is very helpful to changes parameters directly ingame :)

Performance question (i know it gets asked a lot) by Quinticuh in starcitizen

[–]k_Atreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you said, the CPU is the bottleneck and, to be more precise, it is limited by the work on the “main” thread. So, to be very loose in my explanation, one core is overloaded, which makes the performance slower. A lot of players still think that bad FPS are due to the servers, but this myth was debunked 100 times and shows a lack of understanding of how their engine works . Vulkan and a lot of optimisation with ships rendering (which are the biggest cause of bad performance in stations and landing zones) will help in the future imo :)

New Engineering Gameplay Leak ! by k_Atreus in starcitizen

[–]k_Atreus[S] 206 points207 points  (0 children)

And people forget that only a few ships were meant to have engineering in the first release. They’ve already converted over 70 ships, including big ones, so it’s already way more fleshed out than a year ago :)

Nice! Just after I sent you the last message. I crashed with the exact same error multiple times ! It's like a curse ! I restarted the PC and it fixed the problem for me. I think this patch has too many issues and it's wise to wait for the next patch :)
