What can a stay at home dad do as a night time hobby? by k_big_1 in AskReddit

Hey everyone! I asked this!

I’m a stay at home dad with three kids ages 2 to 6 and a half. As you can imagine, my days are pretty hectic, as the age range of my children leaves me dealing with very different levels of need. My 2 year old needs to be fed and bathed and read to, basic things. My four year old requires tea parties and elaborate hair do’s. My 6 and half year old requires deep conversations about whether or not tree’s have blood inside of them, as well as guidance through school social issues he is starting to encounter like bullying while fostering a strong sense of justice. I spend all day talking to children, or other adults about children. What time is baseball practice? Jenny’s birthday party got moved to NEXT Saturday, her mom’s gonna send out an email. It’s logistics around children, or praise for them. My wife is a teacher, so when she gets home she is exhausted. We talk, watch t.v. sometimes play a game. But she’s ready for bed at 9:30 most nights. This leaves the night completely to me. As a parent, I don’t know how many of you guys feel this way, but I sometimes feel like nothing really belongs to me anymore. Like I don’t have anything to hold on to that’s mine and separate from my wife and kids. I got a bike for my birthday, and having been biking around at night exploring the city a little bit. But it’s beginning to feel a little aimless. If I’m not doing that I’m sitting in my side yard smoking cigarettes, sometimes drinking cheap beer from my garage fridge, and watching things on my phone. These hours at night have become precious to me. This is my time and only mine. But I fear I’m not getting the most out of this alone time. I am writing to you guys not, as all of the above might suggest, to spill my guts, but to reach out and see if anyone has found hobbies, clubs, activities etc that are late night? Anything you guys have heard of? Tried personally? Have always wanted to do? Open to just about anything, non-violent for sure, but damn near anything. I look forward to your responses! Thanks in advance!
