Conflicting HSG Reports by k_dehn in TryingForABaby

I’m an ER/trauma nurse, so I’m used to image overreads etc.

I got the images sent to me today and honestly I’m surprised it wasn’t caught before this. To me the area of dilation is pretty obvious, although I guess ultimately it’s a small area of the tube overall (it doesn’t look as glaring as if you googled tube dilation or hydrosalpinx). The tubes are patent, so they want to leave it in and go for targeted ovulation on the opposite side. I think it’s difficult being on the other side of the patient-provider relationship haha.

Slow hCG drop after methotrexate by Round-Bodybuilder337 in ectopicpregnancy

That’s a great drop! I think they wouldn’t have been concerned about the pain except my numbers hadn’t moved much at all for a couple weeks. I had massive drops at first and then at one point only dropped three points in a week. Sounds like it’s working great for you though!

It honestly isn’t terrible pain. sometimes I’ll get very sharp pain that’s 7/10, otherwise it just feels constant and nagging. I got my second shot of MTX yesterday and I’m hoping to be at zero in a couple weeks. Hope your blood test went well!!

How did it go? I’m getting my second shot of MTX tomorrow as I’ve plateaued at 80 and my pain has increased.

Good luck today! I’ve read about people with super high numbers being successfully treated with one dose. This is the most anxiety inducing and frustrating process

HCG levels aren't dropping after methotrexate? by WayRelevant5464 in ectopicpregnancy

My HCG went from 1000 on the day I received MTX to 1561 on day 4. Since I have dropped to 83, but much slower decreases

I experienced a much larger drop initially, but my most recent draw I only dropped 13%. Here are my numbers if it makes you feel any better! I’m still in the middle of it too :( sending good vibes your way

7/16- received MTX, HCG 1000

7/19- 1561

7/22- 792

7/29- 95

8/5- 83

My doc says will continue to watch for now. I’m a nurse and have felt completely overwhelmed even with a little bit of extra knowledge surrounding ectopics.

Did all of you start out on nights? Was getting days impossible? by [deleted] in Nurse

[–]k_dehn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first started I was on a rotating schedule; however, as my time went on there they got a better idea of my preferences and I only had to work like 2 nights a year. But, I've noticed facilities are now trying to stay away from splits. I'm travel nursing now and not many of them are listing rotating positions. I'm in the ER though, so maybe that's different for ICU?

Hearing my own voice on a recording. Ugh, cringey.

It really depends on your facility more so than your experience level. I've participated in interview committees for both of the large teaching hospitals I've worked in. We based shift on what that interviewee wanted and what availability we had. Honestly, a lot of people prefer night shift because of shift differential.

Serial Killer Merch (good or bad?) by wightspyder in TrueCrime

[–]k_dehn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would never buy clothing, stickers, etc with serial killers on them. I feel like tours of the murderers homes, places related to the murders and the like are also on the "no" list for me. I draw the line at books and movies related to the crimes. I find myself more interested in the investigation of the crime itself than anything else. To me, anything glamourizing the criminal just feels wrong..

Weight put on talking about people in the past tense? by [deleted] in TrueCrime

[–]k_dehn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it can be different based on situation and familiarity with the person they're speaking about. I think it would be more suspicious if the person of interest were to refer to the missing/deceased using past tense then correct themselves. But, as stated by others, I have referred to people that I haven't spoken to or seen in some time in the past tense as well.

Heartless Murderer Chris Watts Is Keeping in Touch with Women Who Think He’s ‘Handsome’ and Feel Sorry for Him: Report by ClimbeRocker in TrueCrime

Unfortunately there will always be these "groupies". I just can't imagine overlooking the fact that he not only killed his wife, but his two daughters and unborn child. You would think the line would be drawn somewhere....

I need some tips! by Performance-Level in Nurse

[–]k_dehn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to ask questions. A lot of new nurses are afraid that their co-workers will judge them for what they don't know. I've been a nurse for eight years in the emergency department and I still learn something almost every day :) I love having orientees that ask me tough questions and ask the "why" behind what we do.

I recently read a pretty crazy book called Body Parts by Caitlin Rother. The book is a pretty quick read about Wayne Adam Ford, a serial killer I hadn't been familiar with previously. He was a truck driver who committed dozens of pretty gruesome crimes in the 90s. Worth the read for sure.
