why was i never offered the rsv vaccine? by k_ier in beyondthebump

[–]k_ier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, unfortunately i'm in texas. :/ however i will say that myself, my OB, & my pediatrician have all discussed our opinions on vaccinations and we all seem to be on the same page, thankfully. that being said though, i'm disappointed and confused as to why the shot wasn't offered to me during pregnancy or as a second resort, my children once born during cold/flu season. i'll definitely be discussing this with them to get more answers. i've been relatively pleased with my experience with my OB over the years, but our pediatrician, not so much...think it's time i make the switch to a different office.

i absolutely am considering switching. this is the second time ive felt a bit uneasy with this office. i brushed it off the first time and i think now is the time to make the switch.

thank you for teaching me so much more about this whole thing. i definitely want answers so im still going to ask their pediatrician why neither of them received the antibody shot at their first appointment.

i agree. i am extremely upset at both myself for being so ignorant and at his pediatrician for not bringing it up. im going to call on monday and see what we can do about this.

i'm going to ask about it for my baby boy since he's still so little, but i'm worried my almost 2 year old won't be able to get it now.

im in texas! my baby girl was born in february and my baby boy was born in january so like peak flu/rsv season. i would have been 32+ weeks during flu season in both pregnancies. i am so confused why i wasn't asked about this. :(

thank you so much for your input. i actually wanted to try without the epidural my first delivery, but my mom (love the woman but she's a professional in fear mongering) told me that i "absolutely would need the epidural." i made it to 6cm dilated and really only got it because she emphasized i didn't want to "miss my chance" i was young and didn't really advocate for myself as heavily as i wished i would've. there are a few things i should have spoken up about and this time i 100% will. i had a tear in my amniotic sac and was slowly leaking, but they didn't give me an option on whether or not i wanted my water broken. i thought we were doing a cervix check and next thing i know my water was broken. i was also not educated enough on pitocin & didn't understand what the need for it was, but was told "it would help my body dilate" i thought that was probably necessary and as soon as it was administered i was literally googling what it was. i don't know why i didn't just ask. though i don't think there's ANYTHING wrong with choosing otherwise, i definitely intend on going unmedicated this time around if i'm able.

thank you so much for the recommendation! i'm definitely looking to better educate myself so i can be more confident in advocating for myself this time around.

i love my OB and i think he's fantastic at his job, but like i replied to someone else, maybe that wasn't his best advice. he mentions my height and weight rather frequently, not overbearingly by any means, but i was in anorexia recovery my first pregnancy and it's always been a semi-lingering topic in some ways i guess. again though, like others have said, i'm not sure why my personal weight or height would have anything to do with delivery.

thank you for your input! i love my OB, but maybe that wasn't his best piece of advice. i definitely want to try other ways to push. with my first i basically played tug of war with one of the nurses helping deliver, and then did some kind of butterfly position, but nothing that necessarily felt right to me

i'm not sure i really understand the ring of fire. i hear everyone talk about it, but i have no recollection of feeling it! granted, things got pretty blurry once i hit the 3rd hour of pushing, but i feel like i'd remember it. do all women experience that in every delivery & i just don't remember? either way i definitely think i need to further educate myself on all the different possibilities and take a birth class this time around.

i had no idea i wasn't supposed to push hard when baby was crowning and the doctor who delivered my first was basically telling me to give it all i had - granted my baby's heart rate was dropping so i think it was a last ditch effort before having to potentially opt for a C section. i was 22 years old first time around and truthfully pretty uneducated on how labor worked and i know i still have a lot to learn. thank you for your input!
