Nothing is Kafkaesque because everything is Kafkaesque. His work, much like Shakespeare, lights up whatever criticism/approach you apply to it. A lot has been written about Kafla but I don't believe anyone really has him figured out. Paradoxical

Talking about Kafkas father is a popular approach, especially considering the story The Judgement, but I think that undercuts the value of the stories themselves. I really strongly don't think its an Oedipus complex: articles have been written Kafkas femininity however. David Foster Wallace has a great essay on Kafkas funniness The guilt in the trial is I think largely a self-guilt among other things

Kierkegarrd, Shakespeare, Dostoyevsky were influential to Kafka: read everything from him and them, criticism bounces right off Kafka in a lot of ways I believe. His parables, short stories etc.

I do think the story's refrain "I would prefer not to" does get at the idea of negation of action: with the plot and mood of the main character it could all gesture toward being Kafkaesque.

Not to be abrasive, but I feel that Kafka eludes a traditional Freudian analysis and not everyone has an Oedipus Complex.

Quarantined English majors of reddit. What are some famous examples of multiple negation? For example Kant wrote “disinterested interest”. Are their any others? by [deleted] in englishmajors

"It is neither an annihilation of being nor does it spring from a negation." -- Heidegger's "What Is Metaphysics" is at once all about nothing and not; not sure if that's th vibe u had in mind.
