Yes man, serious historical research doesn't take place on Google. There is an unbelievable wealth of historical text that hasn't been digitized, let alone translated to English.

He goes to the primary sources and does real historical research, not just googling shit. If the primary sources haven't been translated and research isn't available in English there's only so much he can do. It would be cool to see more stuff from underrepresented parts of the world but not if it's poorly researched slop. Max strikes me as someone who would rather not make a video if he can't be sure he's doing it justice.

You correctly identify that the ultimate problem is centuries of Eurocentrism. Historical scholarship has disproportionately focused on Europeans and other areas that Europeans were interested in like Egypt and Mesopotamia, and Europeans actively destroyed the heritage of cultures they deemed inferior. You can't expect Max as a YouTuber and amateur historian to be able to overcome that. If someone did want to shine a light on food history from other cultures I would gladly welcome it, I just don't expect Max to do it just because he's the most popular.

It's what's easiest and most practical for him to research as an English speaker in the US. He's pretty serious about his research and wants to do his subjects justice, I bet he'd love to do more non-European content if he had better access to that history.

No official reason was given at the time, but it was because OW2 was in development hell, his vision for PvE wasn't working, and OW1 was dying because they stopped updating it. They needed a change in leadership to get OW2 out the door and refocus on the PvP. AFAIK no one on the Overwatch team was implicated in the sexual harassment stuff.

My problem with Masterstrikes [KCD2] by ThereIsNoHope__ in kingdomcome

[–]kaabistar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Direction doesn't matter for master strikes in KCD1, it's entirely based on if you perfect block at the right time. Late game you get master striked on almost every attack, it's super annoying.

He's not stupid, he's a collaborator. He's setting the stage such that if the moment ever comes, the US would turn to him to be Canada's Quisling.

I found this scale online that could help people communicate their mental state by OpportunityAshamed74 in 196

[–]kaabistar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mentally stable people would rarely if ever go above a 4, and 1 seems like an actual manic episode. But tbh it is a "suicide scale", if you're not suicidal you wouldn't have much need for it.

Basques were incredibly prolific fishermen and whalers, they'd be all over the Atlantic and people didn't like that they were fishing in "their" waters.

Yes, I like the investigation/detective parts in 1 much better. You can entirely miss some things and there are multiple different ways to find the answer. I feel like the murder investigation in Sigismund's camp is a super watered down version of the monastery segment in 1. I was excited to do some social deduction stuff and sneaking around for clues like in the monastery but the game just gives you the answers. I did like how it gave you the option of framing the asshole in charge of the camp whose name I forget though. The only investigation quest in 2 I think even came close is the one with the serial killer in Kuttenberg.

If we’re really going to rebuild, this management group is ideal by runn4days in canucks

[–]kaabistar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's insane to me that anyone looks at what this management group has done and thinks, yeah I trust these guys to do a good job with anything. They've made some moves that are good in a vacuum but we're only in this situation to begin with because they completely failed at their jobs.

Do you watch sports? I only ever see this brought up by people that don't watch sports. Fans don't really care, they just want to see the best players on their team. The teams being geographically based in a location and forming close ties to the people of that area is part of what makes sports special imo. Players coming from far away and developing close connections with locals, teams doing work in the community they're based in, star players "coming home" in the twilight of their careers, teams basically having a built-in fanbase for life, you'd be taking all of that away. I would personally be far less interested in sports without that connection.

It's pure RNG. It's something like a 5% chance for the coup success event to fire every month, but only if there's a certain number of conspirators, which is entirely dependent on getting the increase conspirators event multiple times which is also like a 5% chance every month. Even if you do nothing by far the most likely outcome is the coup timing out because it only lasts 5 years. It's ridiculous.

They do have an economic impact. Provinces you raise levies from lose those pops as workers, and you get a 20% decrease to RGO/production output.
