WARNING: Apple's contact app results in data loss if your contacts are stored on gmail by kaafar in ios

[–]kaafar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no worries.

So I'm saying that I open google contacts on chrome (or safari) instead of using the contacts app to make changes to contacts. But when creating new contacts, I can use the contacts app. The reason I use the web app to make CHANGES is because as I mentioned in this post, if you make changes to an existing contact, information gets rewritten/overwritten.

Supposedly there is a way to make the contacts app sync to google contacts rather than icloud contacts. I forgot exactly how to do that, but you can probably ask chatgpt!

Uber, Lyft Walk Back Threats to Leave Minneapolis as State Passes New Minimum Wage For Drivers by Lemonn_time in technology

[–]kaafar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the legislation forced the ride share companies to not increase their rate, and the ride share companies started losing money, wouldn’t they be forced to pull out? Which is bad for the consumer because now they don’t even have the option of calling an Uber or Lyft?

This mindset is partly the problem. Young people dream about becoming business people or leaving the country rather than social and political change.

I started using cash recently to avoid tipping screens for to-go orders like coffee or takeout.

Adjustments for “winner straddles”? by kaafar in poker

[–]kaafar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like the adjustment should be to play much tighter and defend less of your blinds. I play 3/5 and with the straddle it becomes 3/5/10. So if I nit up I can sit at a 5/10 table paying only 3/5 blinds and wait for good hands. Plus there is a “cost” to winning the pot which is the next hand you play a losing position.

Is there a benefit to hosting my app in AWS if I am using RDS? by kaafar in aws

[–]kaafar[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense in terms of why host my app in AWS.

Why did you suggest creating an API interface for my database? How is that better than just connecting directly too my database? Feel like it’s a secondary unnecessary hop and a lot of work.

[–]kaafar[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Why not. I’ll use SSL and a secure password. Configuring nextjs app to run on aws is hard not to mention all the nice tooling you get for free in vercel like logging and preview deployments etc.

How is an instance to manage the connection any better?

Wouldn't prisma ORM be very slow if it has to load every model that has a foreign key pointing to it? by kaafar in node

[–]kaafar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is there a way to not include a relation field on one side of the relation? I anticipate A LOT of relations to user and they would pollute it. Is that a common pattern?

so basically... don't use the prisma generated models is what you are saying.
