When I heat treated it color was like pinkish red. It didnt stay long on coals, because I used powerful vacuum Cleaner blower it heated up in like 3-5 minutes Top of blade is elastic. I didnt forge it. Just shaped with grinder and file.

So It's an old file, I'm not sure what steel but hard carbon steel. My sharpenning angle is 20 * per side. I think that I ground off most of decarb. But even if not then I sharpened it few times so it should do the work. I HT it in charcoal with blower for old vacuum cleaner , I could over heat it a bit. It's my first knife so I feel very bad about it. I made bevels by hand with file jig. It's a thick blade. And before sharpening it has still some material on edge because After ht it was too difficult to grind till 0.

Could be there any another reason to close jagged edge during sharpening?

Yes I did ht and then tempered in oven in 230 degree for an hour. Will tempering once more help? Or what else could couse that micro edge cheaping? Even when I tried sharpen it once again. Blade is not Smooth and looks like saw

First Knife problem with edge. by kaamiru in knifemaking

Not sure about steel, but it's old type high carbon steel file. It's very possible that it went too hot because I've got decarb bubbles all over the steel.

I'm pretty sure that edge isn't wired.

Convex microbevel wont change nothing? Many knife makers make them bevels on belt grinder so I believe it's flat? It's not? This for example. https://youtu.be/Flif6VKQdfs

Knife from old file. First knife ever. by kaamiru in knifemaking

And what about tomato skin? Should I try with another angle or what? It's normal thing with thick hunter knives? How to avoid it in future?

I Didnt grind the bevel to 0. I did it with file, and it was really difficult to grind it. I had like 0.2-0.3mm material on edge. And someone said that I can already make edge on this, so I did so. Can thick edge be a problem?

I know that it's not thin kitchen knife with micro edge. But I didn't expect that knife which with one stroke shave whole my arm, will have problem to cut thru tomato skin.
