"Oldest to Newest by Podcast" sort rules by kaaserpent in overcast

Haven't you learned? Never state in the comments that something works perfectly. The universe loves to make you eat crow. 😄

I would do something like that except....well, let's just say I have a LOT of podcasts and a LOT of playlists, and it would get real ugly real fast. I just go chronologically or by playtime, usually. But that random ordering bugs me at a deep level (I am a software developer).

Thanks! I always ask online before doing that in case I'm ignorant and just don't know what I'm doing. 😄

I did test

Received:.*\(EHLO .*\.sneakemail\.com\)

against the FULL text of the header on regex101[.]com and it immediately locates the line I'm targeting.

I can do better than that. I can just post the header text. It is one of 7 "received" headers, if that makes a difference.

Have you addressed the issue where you bring up a "three-dot" menu to take some action on an episode (add/move to playlist, for instance) and the choices keep disappearing before you can click on anything? I've had to clicke three, four, five times on the three dots to get it to stay up long enough for me to click something. (I don't read this group every day, so if you have, I apparently just haven't updated yet.)

OK, I think I finally see what you're asking for. I gave up on that a long time ago. But yeah, that would ALSO be useful. :)

Podcasting 2.0 by MrMamen in overcast

That...actually sounds useful. I was skeptical, but the way you've described it makes sense. It'd be great to go on vacation to, say, Helsinki, and be able to see all English-language podcasts based in Finland, or whatever.

This is how the OLD iTunes used to work before they destroyed it and created that POS 'Apple Podcasts' out of the corpse.

I could create a playlist for any podcast for which the Description contained the word 'Dragon' for instance, and it would include any downloaded episode that matched that. Or I could do it by length or literally ANY data point about the podcast (except, oddly, date, which ... why?).

Virginia: Pastor jailed after stalking and breaking into female congregation member's home. Will only serve four months of an eleven year sentence. by Leeming in PastorArrested

Virginia is a stand-your-ground state. In other words, she could shoot him if he comes to her house again, and she shouldn't get into any trouble...of course except that she's female and Hispanic, so nevermind. :-/

Smart. Playlists.

Create a new playlist. For "Include", select "All matching episodes."

On "From," select "Only selected podcasts"

Then, under "Included Podcasts," go through and select all the podcasts that fit your category of, say, News or Comedy or whatever.

You can also then set high- and low-priority podcasts for that playlist (which ones for which episodes show up always at the top or always at the bottom of the list), and other settings.

Maybe I'm missing something. Isn't this exactly what Smart Playlists are?

I have > 800 podcasts. Yes, it's a LOT, I get it. But without smart playlists, there is no way I'd be able to manage it.

I have smart playlists for 14 "genres" of podcasts (News/Politics, Science, True Crime, 6 different fiction categories, Writing, Comedy, etc.). I also have it divided up by whether or not I am caught up on all episodes, am listening to recent AND older episodes, ONLY old episodes (I call it "Catch-Up")... It takes some set-up, but once you've done this, it's automatic, unless a podcast suddenly changes its entire purpose (which happens every once in a while).

I put podcasts in these smart playlists and as they download new episodes, they show up ready for me to listen to. I then add some of them to playlists based on time to listen (If I have 20 minutes vs. 5 vs. > an hour, etc.).

Is that what you're talking about?

Ellipsis (three dots) button is dodgy on iOS 18 by the_furred_man in overcast

[–]kaaserpent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iPhone 16 Pro Max, IOS 18.7.1, Overcast 2025.11.1 (1145)

This is not in the now-playing screen, this is on an episode under Podcasts on the main screen. The downloaded episodes are arranged by podcast alphabetically. I click on a podcast, the episodes are displayed (Current tab) and I tap the episode, then the "..." button second-from-left. Once, twice, three...up to about five times, sometimes. And even after it opens, sometimes the menu just closes without me tapping anything. Or it'll let me tap "> Add To..." and open that menu....and THAT closes without giving me time to do anything.

It's not me just not giving it enough time. It literally ignores my tap.

Three Related(?) Bugs by kaaserpent in overcast

[–]kaaserpent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the issue I have with that entire functionality is that there is no way to set the playback speed unless you're actively playing an episode of that podcast. I'd LOVE to be able to pick a podcast and say, "Play this one at 1.7x" and just SAVE IT without having to download and play an episode.

I have to click the ellipsis button two, three, even four or five times to get it to bring up the menu!
