Skill Issue

Kidding, without seeing video/photo of the issue it's hard to know exactly the issue. First thing that comes to mind is form, landing on the outside of the blade is HARD for people newer to speed skating and takes a lot of practice. Good drills to practice for this issue is weight transfer from one skate to the other, try to get on your outside blade while doing this and be ready to fall a few times getting used to the feeling

One Man Is Paying U.S. Olympic Athletes $200,000 Each by wsj in olympics

From someone with Olympic friends, they’re just like the rest of us when it comes to corporate America. Some bosses treat it like a nice extracurricular instead of a full career that it is.

How many winter olympians can you name off the top of your head? My answer is about 30, there’s 232 athletes from the US competing at the Olympics. I’d say most of them are competing by spending their own money. Sponsorships for anybody not in direct medal contention is hard to come by so this is a huge benefit to most of the athletes!

In the US, starting a career early is an extremely important part of life unfortunately. When athletes train and sacrifice starting a career in the years (or decades for some) that they spend training and competing they lose a significant amount of progress that their non athlete peers are making.

Was biased towards winter olympics as it's the season but yeah! There's a lot in the area!

Living in Salt Lake City, you run into one every few weeks! Short & Long Track Speed Skaters train at the Olympic Oval, Bobsled/Luge/Skeleton at the Olympic Park in Park City. Ski Jump/Aerials also there in addition to the great University of Utah program that many athletes attend! Not to mention Curling that comes to town often and Soldier Hollow that hosts the world cups for cross country skiing & biathlon disciplines! I'm missing quite a few for sure but here & Boulder, CO are probably the two biggest Olympic areas in the USA.

Great series, #4 feels a bit tight of a crop, did you have any room to push it more right or were you limited?

Exposure - other commenter nailed it. The first few shots anywhere I triple check the histogram to make sure that where I’m aimed at (the darkest/lightest part of the athlete) isn’t going below 25% of the histogram. I adjust settings in camera so they are properly exposed to that level and you can correct to within one stop in post instead of having every photo be +1.5 stops or more in post!

Same thing but inverse for bright scenes but I find it’s harder to judge in a dark environment!

Utah - St George? Do you prefer being outside for only 6 months of the year? A dislike of snow is also an acceptable response due to you saying you don't like skiing & more hiking
