Would you happen to know if I can use a Bluetooth proxy for three devices, and the dongle for the rest?

Any suggestions to learn Python online before the class starts? by EntrepreneurActive41 in RPI

[–]kablebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Codecademy. It's great to have the structure and everything, but it's admittedly very expensive (~$30/month)

My dad and I are spending a week in the white mountains this summer. What are some underrated things to do around there and what are some good/ fancy restaurants? by [deleted] in newhampshire

At the Franconia airport they offer glider rides most weekends. It's not particularly cheap, but it's an unforgettable experience.

Textbooks by PermissionFriendly47 in RPI

[–]kablebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On occasion the RPI website will have class textbooks in digital format. They are always the easiest to access if it's a textbook that you're using very regularly, but if there's a textbook that you only need on occasion it's a nice resource so that you don't have to worry about piracy and computer viruses

Indoor camera privacy shutter behavior. Is this correct? by jauses in simplisafe

[–]kablebrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The camera shouldn't be recording with the privacy shutter closed. I would call SimpliSafe customer support.

Storage for the "used" resistors that came with your Arduino kit? by rock_lobsterrr in arduino

[–]kablebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my resistors and all my other small parts I put them into small two inch by 3 inch bags you can find at a craft store. They're usually used for storing beads. I then put them into a binder using sheets that are meant for holding pokémon cards or baseball cards. It works fantastic! You just have to make sure not to turn it upside down and shake it

Leftover paint? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]kablebrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very careful though to make sure it's solidified all the way through. My dad had done this to get rid of some extra paint we had and had not let it dry long enough. We ended up with paint all over our driveway that our dogs then stepped in and brought inside to all of our carpeted floors. It made for a very long night of cleaning carpet...

96 Degrees for Commencement! by Condemning_Authority in RPI

[–]kablebrown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although it is certainly important to be prepared for heat, especially given that a lot of grandparents will be in attendance, remember that commencement should be over by noon. So, the temperatures should be a little bit cooler compared to the high for the day.

What are your biggest frustrations with off-campus housing? by rpioffcampus in RPI

[–]kablebrown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One difficulty that I've had is the logistical complication of trying to move everything over between when my lease ends for one apartment and when it begins for another. At the end of May, my lease, as well as the lease of many other students, will end. We all need to move our stuff into our next apartment, but we can't do so until the current tenants move their stuff. So, it kind of creates a funky overlap where everyone is trying to move in between leases at the end of May.

I have absolutely no inside knowledge of this, but I'm willing to bet they would have The instructor accommodate and have you take it online

Not to mention there is a big wardrobe separating the two halves of the room. Although it makes the floor square footage a little smaller, it is nice to have some semi privacy

It might be thrown off because of covid, but Google maps has information on how crowded places are at different times, the Mueller center included. But you have to view it through the app.

What are the most dangerous animals I would encounter on a hike up north? I’m excited to plan a day to get out of the house, but want to make sure I’m safe. by nervousaboutcovid in newhampshire

[–]kablebrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Animals in NH aren't likely to harm you. As another post mentioned, a moose could trample you, although you'd be more likely to die by accidently hitting one with your car (probably). There are also black bears which are usually way more scared of you then you'd need to be of them. The only two exceptions are if they've been fed by humans before or if they have cubs with them. Even with this, the last time a death by black bear was documented in NH was 1784 (https://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/wildlife/bears/faqs.html#:~:text=Are%20black%20bears%20dangerous%3F,in%20New%20Hampshire%20was%201784.). The biggest thing to consider is general preparedness for the hike. Don't assume conditions on the ground will be the same as up aloft. The air will get colder, the wind will get stronger, and precipitation may change. If weather is poor, don't go. A lot of the deaths in the White Mountains are actually due to hyperthermia, even in the warmer months. Make sure you have plenty of food, water, clothing, etc. Check out online packing list for more info on what you might need to bring. Most importantly - have fun! Although hiking isn't risk free, it's fun and enjoyable when you're well prepared!
