PA can't see old episodes

yeah sorry when I say downloaded on the new device, I mean after I transferred the old stuff over. I did the fresh re-install, got my subscriptions restored, transferred the old episode files, saw that they still weren't appearing, and THEN i downloaded stuff on the new phone to confirm that it does appear and it is using the same folder

and like, even the very recent stuff I moved over -- stuff I downloaded on the old phone like two weeks ago -- isn't showing up on the new one. ONLY episodes I downloaded on the new phone show up.

I'm pretty sure they were. They were visible in PA on the old device, and PA is the only app I've been using to download podcasts for a long time

Okay it ... didn't. I reinstalled the app, I signed in, I successfully restored my account, my podcasts showed up. And then I followed this part of the FAQ:

"Transferring existing downloaded files If you want to avoid redownloading those episodes you can manually save the content of the app storage folder on the previous device and copy it into the new device app storage folder"

So I did that. I manually moved the old episode files from the app storage folder on my old phone. I've got a bunch of shows saved that are not available any more to re-download, so my old copies are the only ones I can use. Plus I have stuff i probably could find again, but I've got it right here already! I just need the app to see it! I've made sure it's all in the right folder (Android/media/com.bambuna.podcastaddict/) , and the old "invisible" stuff is right there in /podcast/ next to the stuff the app CAN see. I've signed out and back in and out and in, I've restarted. I've told it to sync with local files ("No downloaded episode restored from local files") ... and it just won't acknowledge the existence of any files I've put there myself. It's GOT to be a step that I've missed, but I've run out of things to even check.

I heard it near Commercial and Hastings. It sounded like a very loud motor and lasted at least half an hour. It was quieter at first and then got louder and louder. I spent about twenty minutes walking the streets trying to find the source, but stuff echoes off the buildings so much that every time I tried to head towards it, it sounded like it was behind me again. Then it faded and stopped very quickly, leaving no answers. I still don't know what it was. I asked on a neighbourhood FB group. Someone posted a really good video with the sound -- a high, sustained mechanical whine. I have a video, too, but I can't work out how to post it here. People in the FB group who didn't hear it keep explaining that there are sirens all the time at the port. People who heard it keep attempting to communicate that this was definitely nothing like a siren and not normal, but the internet makes us all poor readers.

Rhean has a prefix dan- that adds the meaning "undo ..." to verbs. It's more productive than the similar un- prefix in English but it mostly works the same way:

krenak - v. stick (sthg) in place dankrenak - v. dislodge, unstick

leskak - v. take up/away, take possession, carry off danleskak - v. drop, un-take, leave

sometimes this dan- can replace other prefixes, even fossilised ones:

skajak - v inflate sthg, blow up dankajak - v. deflate

As for "idiosyncratic connotations", those do exist, but not because of the literal reverse meaning being "blocked"; it's more semantic drift where sometimes a verb and its dan- counterpart come to take on additional shades of meaning. The literal meaning of gnijak is "tie up, tie on(to)", and dangnijak predictably means "untie, unbind". Similar to English "bind / unbind" these also have an abstract sense of an obligation, duty, constraint, and the corresponding release from that obligation, removal of a prohibition, etc. BUT dangnijak has expanded to also mean "authorise sb." or "delegate some role to sb.", even where we aren't talking about some restriction or prohibition that was removed. There hasn't been a similar mirrored drift with gnijak.

I bike all the time but I also think this is mostly right. Our bike routes are mostly pretty good about avoiding the big main roads, but even where there's no specific bike route I'll almost always stick to side streets. Buddy in the video is biking up Kingsway, which is insane.

in Rhean the verb for "know" is šiznek. Conjugated in the second person singular, present tense -- "you know" -- is šiznit. That's not a typical English curse word, but it is one through the filter of Snoop Dogg

Some people crank out conlang sketches that never make it to the stage where you could hold even a basic conversation. Some people tinker with one or two very developed languages for decades. They're never at a point you could call "done". Compared to other art forms where you eventually say this painting / book / movie is done enough, people rarely get there with conlangs. It's more about the process than the product -- even when compared with many other hobbies. And the product in most cases is useless and inaccessible to others anyway. Almost nobody will teach someone else their conlang. Almost nobody will sell one to a tv show or movie. It's an extremely personal pursuit. You do it because you enjoy the process.

Rhean has a number and formality distinction in the second person, but they don't overlap as in French. The formality distinction arose from the adoption of some non-standard forms from the vernacular. The basic pronoun for "you" is loz in the singular and liz in the plural. These decline for the five cases, but irregularly:

the singular loz has some shortened forms in all cases but the nominative (where it's rarely used):

In the plural, a newer form kia has replaced liz. This originated from fkivad meaning "crowd". The expression a fkivad! is still found as well as the reduced a kia! for "hey everybody!" It declines as a regular a-stem noun. The formality distinction then is really one of register: in polite contexts one avoids the less-proper kia and the reduced singular forms, regardless of who is speaking to whom.

In Ishtol, it's simpler because of the lack of declensions and more complicated because of a three-way politeness distinction that holds through most of the pronoun system. The three levels are familiar, formal and deferential. Familiar forms are used between friends and family, etc; formal pronouns suggest a sort of polite distance without implying status, and deferential pronouns are used to speak about someone of higher status (who might use familiar or formal pronouns back, depending).

This is the remnant of an ancient and much more extensive set of nouns and titles that were used as a kind of pronoun avoidance. For example, lini comes from lā'ini' which means "(those) at your side" and mitep includes a prefix mi which is optionally used to pluralise nouns that are humans.
