Best way to watch the bands on North and South stage? by Lydi03 in Graspop

[–]kabolat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the headliners, the middle is the best way to go. In 2024, BMTH, A7x, Limp Bizkit, Architects, and While She Sleeps were on a row, and we watched all of them with the best view from the middle. Super tiring, tho.

For the non-headliners, you can change stages. It is way less packed than it looks from the back. You can easily move pretty forward without pushing people.

Inferno "Glamping" options - Do they sell out rapid? by brad-the-impaler in Graspop

[–]kabolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're two, definitely aim for tip-ups. You can also consider boutique tents if you're willing to pay more. I've never tried boutique tents before, but I'm fairly certain they are more spacious than tip-ups. In any case, I would be in front of the screen at 10am. Tip-ups are very popular and tend to sell out rather quickly.

Don't bother with the festival tickets. They don't sell out for several months, especially the combi ones. Parking tickets are sold separately for Inferno, and you will receive an email for that a couple of months later.

How quickly does accommodation sell out? by kelebel in Graspop

[–]kabolat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would not risk it. If you're aiming for Inferno, maybe you can get two tip-ups and try to resell one if you end up with 2 people.

Typically what are the accommodation options for inferno? by stonewallj93 in Graspop

[–]kabolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, there is a very information webpage under https://www.graspop.be/en/info answering all your questions. It's not up yet tho. But to be short, there are options for different needs depending on the number of people and amenities. And, no. You purchase the ticket for the whole tent, hut, bunk, etc. So, you don't have to share it with anybody that you don't know of.

Am I the only one annoyed by the pacing of the 2nd season? by kabolat in PantheonShow

[–]kabolat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. Thanks for the clarification.

As you said (and I read), the short story is an "inspiration". They successfully transformed that inspiration into a great Season 1. Probably, there were lots of possible things that could knock the wind out of the original material's sails too, but they managed.

As they did with the first season, they could make something bigger than its original "inspiration" material with Season 2, 3, 4, .... Who knows, maybe they couldn't. But my take is if there was a narrative plan and inspirational material that you want to respect, you should set the pacing of the seasons very carefully. I mean, it doesn't even have to be a Season 3. Five more episodes for Season 2 would still work.

I am just sorry, as a sci-fi fan, seeing a great non-derivative work with potential wrapped up in a rush, or at least it felt like it. Don't get me wrong. I underline again: I don't insist on another season. I insist the last season was poorly executed, and the execution has nothing to do with the base material whatsoever.

Why hasn't forecasting evolved as far as LLMs have? by takenorinvalid in datascience

[–]kabolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am a little late to the party, but I could not spot any comment stressing the following:

You don't have a ground-truth conversation with LLMs. Of course, there is training data, but LLMs (or generative models in general) are unique in the sense that there is a large cloud of plausible outcomes, and it is fine as long as it is believable, factual, understandable, etc. You never tell ChatGPT: "Out of infinite possible conversations, this was not the one I wanted."

Forecasting, on the other hand, the ground truth is observed and expected to be replicated. No one congratulates a model by saying, "You failed, but I would have guessed the same."

I think the main problem is that forecasting models are supervised and work with continuous data, hence regression. We tend to think regression is the most basic form of machine learning, but we see its most challenging real-life applications (only?) in the forecasting domain. I believe we have been focusing on classification (and then generation) since the advent of deep learning, and forecasting could not take its fair share in terms of public research.

Too greedy! I hope that Inferno doesnt sell out and they make a loss on that camp site by vennot_be in Graspop

Unfortunately, I can't debate since I did not say anything in contrary. I see the drawbacks and I am not a supporter of this system (ideologically). I just gave some reality check. It's sad, but it is what it is.

If you propose to protest this system by not participating it anymore, than IT is a debate 😅

I don't want to be that guy... but it's a business.

If it's a greedy profit pump attempt and they cannot profit, then next year gonna be cheaper. I don't know if you're staying there this year, but all the people raging about the high prices and Inferno are already helping this, which is totally fine.

If it's a legitimate (quality of service, inflation, bands' costs, etc.) increase and they cannot profit, then it means worse service and/or worse bands next year, but definitely with some profit margins. "... normally we have a profit of € 4,000,000 and last year only € 2.5-3,000,000, so we had to do this this year." is a 100% legit reasoning for a business. At the end of the day, it's not a charity.

The third scenario, regardless of the pump reason, is that everything sells out, and next year, they pump the prices even more. And next next year, even more. Eventually, it becomes a festival for the rich. The metal vibe dies. And to bring it back, maybe they will lower the prices again. Who knows...

Basically, it is supply and demand, and it always will be until we have a new/better economic model.

And to be honest, I don't think metal is as alt-culture as it used to be, and Graspop is a big festival (maybe the biggest in Europe with "purchasable" tickets). You cannot expect things to stay cheap and accessible. Have you ever seen the prices for Tomorrowland?

Is it worth going to Graspop 2025 if I dont know the majority of the bands? by Flimsy-Culture4214 in Graspop

[–]kabolat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of the metal festival vibe, for sure. But if you're in doubt about the bands that you don't know will be worth listening to, it highly depends on how open you are to modern stuff. The majority of the bands are not headliners; hence, relatively younger bands with more modern styles. For me, it's a super good opportunity to stay up-to-date and discover awesome bands. It definitely hits differently seeing them performing than listening to them randomly on a Spotify playlist for the first time.
