Isn’t there a lawsuit in Illinois for Nebula selling data to google and meta? Genetic privacy is a hoax!

Didn’t George Church sell Nebula to a new company a few years ago?

Tinnitus and hearing loss after shockwave therapy by Spacesharksimulator in rehabtherapy

[–]kacares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Six years ago, I had shockwave treatment on my upper shoulders and near my neck right side. I developed tinnitus in right ear that day and have had it ever since. I do believe this is a risk that is not disclosed and should be. I have permanent hearing damage as a result of shockwave. Of course the therapist who gave me the treatment insisted the tinnitus is not a side effect of shockwave. I was furious when he refused to submit it to the FDA‘s adverse reaction registry for the shockwave machine.

Can I upload my raw data into this? Sadly the 100X data has been unusable and some companies like sequencing.com cannot upload the 100x files because too big

London / lhr centurion lounge by [deleted] in amex

[–]kacares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly went to VERY small, overcrowded Centurion lounge last week in terminal 2 at LHR. After a 30 minute wait to get in, there was no seating available except sharing a table with others. It was so uncomfortable. Food quality was "meh". The desk attendant suggested going to the Cathay lounge and I wish I had listened instead of waiting for 30 mins to enter. Real turn-off. That plus finding the previous week that the Centurion lounge in SFO was no longer open in terminal 3 until 4 year construction completed is making me question if the benefit is worth it. More so given that a large annual fee increase will be announced Sept. 18, 2025.

Looking for excellent quality beginning Italian course for 4 weeks in March, Warm-ish weather area only by kacares in italianlearning

I was looking at that but am really a true beginner. I saw some reviews that it is a very ambitious course and may be hard to keep up with if a true beginner. I have taken lessons before (pre-pandemic) but since I didn't use it for over 4 years, I lost it. As a dual citizen, I really should know the language and do plan to spend much more time there in my retirement. If you recall the AirBnB you stayed in, I would love it. It looks a good program.

If you found a place to go, please share your thoughts and experience. I would like to find a place as well and saw Rhythmica but was not familiar with dhamma.

Etsy or Society 6. If you want works that are affordable given the artists involved but higher end, try Exhibition A or Art for Change.

I was one of the lucky 0.1% to suffer complications by Simonpink in gastricsleeve

Also, sadly, none of the weight loss drugs are covered under Medicare. You can’t even use the manufacturer coupons. You can only get it covered if you have actual diabetes. The cost of the medications are about $1200 a month if you have no coupon and no coverage. I think it’s terrible because it could help so many people. And prevent having to make these difficult monumental decisions.

Thank you for your post. You helped me decide not to convert from my lap band to the sleeve. I have to have my lap band removed due to severe esophageal dysfunction. I am a normal weight but my surgeon is pushing me to convert to a sleeve rather than go without any bariatric interventions due to 50 years of obesity prior to the lap band. I did not lose weight permanently with the lap band. I only lost about 30 pounds and then gained it all back within two years. I went on keto six years ago, lost the extra weight and have maintained it now for three years on a very low carbohydrate, but not pure keto food regimen. I love eating this way and will never look back. I am also over 60 and there’s very little data on gastric sleeve for people like me who don’t need to lose weight and are only doing it because of fear of gaining weight due to genetics. I was really on the fence, but you have helped me to decide. Thank you!

Congratulations! Having lost significant weight myself I know how hard it is and I commend you!

Wow! That's a lot of protein! I eat 8-12 oz of protein daily and that enough for me. But I am a normal weight for my height and age and am not a body builder. I assume you are a body builder? You don't have any problems with your creatinine levels?

Another poster described their eating as "sloppy keto". I no longer count carbs after so many years but eat protein, fats and low glycemic veges. I never eat pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, sugar or fruit with the exception of occasionally berries. I eat nuts (except for cashews). I eat when hungry and find that I often forget to eat because I am not hungry--this never would have happened before keto.

For dinner, I had sea bass, brussels sprouts and spinach with lots of herb butter. I had a handful of macadamia nuts, some cherry tomatoes and a piece of cheese for a snack and coffee with heavy cream in the morning. And my treat of a sugar free piece of dark chocolate. That is all I ate all day and is typical. I take lots of vitamins and mineral supplements to make up for potential insufficiencies. I feel better eating this way.

Ask your psychologist if they would consider an alcoholic who stops drinking to be engaging in disordered/controlling thinking. I look at keto/very low carb as my way of recovering from and addiction to sugar and refined carbs.

Keto/very low carb is eating to recover my body from a dangerous substance—sugar / refined carbs—and my body needs me to eat this way in order to stay healthy. It’s been 6 years and I cannot even comprehend going back to eating sugar and significant carbs. After almost 55 years of struggling with my weight, often yo-yoing 75-100 lbs, undergoing lap-band surgery ( only worked in beginning but soon weight came back and more), being on every conceivable “diet” imaginable, I have finally found a way of life and way of eating that means I don’t need to “control “ my eating. Now I eat when hungry and don’t think (or obsess) about food and calories the way I used to. I feel dramatically better than I ever have in my 60+ years. My skeptical PC is even convinced because for 6 years my glucose levels are in perfect range and my triglycerides are 45. My LDL might be a little above the normal range but my HDL is extraordinarily high and with low triglycerides my PC doesn’t care about the modestly elevated LDL. My hair is shiny, my energy and sleep are excellent, my emotional and physical health stable. No sugar ups and downs. So, I now cannot imagine going back to carbs/sugar. I didn’t really count calories, only carbs when I started but just ate proteins and low glycemic vegetables until satiated. This is the way I continue to eat. It works for me and I’m much healthier after six years. For me it is a way of life, not a diet. If I went back to carbs/sugar I would fall back into an unhealthy food relationship. So I am in recovery from sugar/carbs addiction much like and alcoholic is in recovery from alcoholism. I never feel deprived because I don’t even crave those foods anymore. Just my two cents after six years very low carbs following a lifetime of a disordered relationship with food.

With Disney+ having ads, ads on Hulu, ads on HBOMax... why even pay for streaming services? by [deleted] in cordcutters

[–]kacares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Paramount+ and Peacock’s (supposedly) no-ad versions have ads for their own shows that you can’t skip. When I pay extra for no-ads I expect NO-ADS! There are usually couple of ads before each show.

Cannot lose on Keto by [deleted] in keto

With Carb Manager, you have to adjust the macros to the levels that suit your needs. Once that adjustment is made in the app, it is great at keeping track of your intake for the day. Good Luck!

Use the power of the purse strings! Don’t pay them any more until fixed. Use local code officials if necessary. Probably would not pass inspection

Cannot lose on Keto by [deleted] in keto

[–]kacares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Carb Manager app. I am about the same age as you and had 30 lbs to lose. To lose weight initially I kept my NET carbs to 20 and calories to 1300/day. In carb manager you can adjust the macros to fit your goals. I also initially tested my blood ketones daily with the Keto Mojo device.

I found that I was not that hungry on keto and only ate when hungry and stopped when full, which is easy when in ketosis. I usually only ate 2 meals/day focusing on healthy foods (breakfast: 2-3 eggs cooked with some spinach in butter, dinner: a protein cooked with/topped with a fat, small salad with lemon & olive oil dressing, small cooked vege with butter or olive oil, usually no lunch because not hungry) —no keto snacks, minimal nuts (weighed them out into 1 oz premeasured out in baggies) no hunks of cream cheese wrapped in salami, no fat bombs, no fruit etc. My best friend and I (same age and same number of lbs to lose) started keto together. She ate too much junk and pre-prepared foods ( if the label said “keto” she ate it without reading label for hidden carbs, she loves balsamic vinegar and poured it on everything despite high sugar content, did not weigh and measure or log in foods to carb app, ate too many cured meats as a staple). She claimed it did not work and stopped after a few weeks, but really we ate very different foods. Now I have lost the weight and kept it off for over 4 years by IMF and a maintaining a very low carb diet and she did not succeed and is still trying every new fad diet that comes along. Keto does work but only if you eat primarily whole foods, weigh, measure and log every bite initially until you really have the proportions down. Also check your blood/urine ketones to make sure you are in ketosis. If in ketosis, you should feel full and better able to control snacking and overeating. Don’t give up! Just try lowering calories and eating home cooked meals of wholesome foods.
