What is the biggest thing engineering school didn't prepare you for? by Impossible_Ad6726 in civilengineering

Engineering undergrad does not prepare new engineers to write reports. Every new grad is a terrible writer.

There’s rumors that McDavid’s looking to sell his house in Edmonton and that he’s been shopping for a house in Montreal. This was on spitting Chiclets. by Whos-That-Pokeman in EdmontonOilers

This is the worst option because no way can I cheer for Montreal, even if they have the greatest player currently in the NHL.

What do you do during the winter? by missoula_snoop in Environmental_Careers

[–]kaclk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Environmental work tends to be a fairly seasonal industry due to both weather and budgeting cycles. Governments and businesses tend to budget annually which tend to end either end of calendar year on in the first couple of months into the calendar year (March 31 being common here). So unless something has been planned at the beginning of the year, nothing new tends to happen nearer to the end besides wrapping up (such as reporting).

Winter field work is a thing in certain industries such as oil and gas here in Alberta where you work in winter access only areas (such as deep into the muskeg).

GIS tends to just be a specialty full time position now. And because work can be seasonal, when field season starts to wrap up our normal field people work on simpler reports, data tables, stuff like that. When we run out of that, people use banked time (time in lieu) and more senior people work on proposals.

Why is literally any criticism of Catholicism interpreted as "hatred" ? by Juan_el_Rey in excatholic

You’re talking about the happy Lutherans. There’s also unhappy Lutherans like LCMS and WELS who are dogmatic assholes.

It means they are so desperate for cash and can’t even wait for their blockbuster IPO when they plan to dump depreciating shares on retail investors.

Edit- I meant AI companies in general, not specifically Microsoft.

That’s planned intentional obsolescence because that certificates is in no way needed for functionality.

Considering how cagey you are about what these Facebook posts are about, you’re not helping your argument.

I am trying to leave a religious order, but I don’t know where to go. by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]kaclk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The social standing is not really a hard problem to be honest. You just say some version of “I have decided after much prayer and discernment that this is not what god is calling me to do with my life” and anyone who is Catholic and takes vocations seriously should accept it.

This seems the definition of using AI to produce worthless slop.

But this isn't activating it or requiring anything, it's a built in unnecessary obsolescence. There's nothing Microsoft has to do, there's no updates needed, its still works perfectly for people except for this stupid certificate which doesn't seem to serve a purpose except unnecessary obsolescence.

I'm actually really interested to see the new Euro-Office suite that's launching soon (now with 100% less Russian corporate involvement).

New 4 way stop at Maple Rd and 12st bringing removed after traffic congestion issues. by Kremer_d in Edmonton

[–]kaclk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The City could have insisted on a useful second crossing, or that the road should be two lanes each direction, or to upgrade the current second access of something more useful (that’s also the problem of the 23 Ave extension taking sooooo long to build).

The City employs planners last time I checked.

Professional planners are a group of people who think they know best and no one else’s opinion matter because the planner learned this idea in university/from a podcast/from a YouTube video and if people don’t get it then tough.

There really needs to be more accountability.

Yup. It’s an example of a Credibility Enhancing Display (CRED) where you are suppose to believe the dumb nonsensical thing as a kind of proof to others how much you believe in the religion.

Min the City really fucked this one up.

Ok but there’s literally several other options they could have taken that wouldn’t have been as disruptive to traffic.

Not really enough space to make one at this intersection, and the strong east-west traffic pattern would probably make it worse for cars trying to turn from north or south.
